GAS-BURNER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ROBERT R. ARMon, a citizen or" the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas- Burners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in gas heaters or burners, and refers particularly to burners for use with natural gas.
One object of my invention is the provision of a burner to be used for heating purposes in the home, in fire places, sheet iron stoves and in fact in any place where it would operate properly.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a burner in which the mixture of air with the gas is perfect, insuring bet ter combustion than obtained with the burners now in use.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a gas burner of the character stated which can be produced at a low cost, which will insure the most efiicient results and which will be practical in every particular.
WVith these objects in view my invention consists of a gas burner embodying novel features of construction and combination of parts substantially as shown, described and particularly defined by the claim.
Figure 1 represents a side elevation of av gas burner, constructed in accordance with and embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a central sectional view of my invention. Fig. 3 represents a detail view of the gas distributer, and Fig. 4 is a view showing the mixing chamber.
In the drawings: the letter A designates the gas feed or supply elbow, having the threaded end B, for attachment to the gas supply pipe and the threaded end C which engages the threaded end D of the gas distributer E. The distributer E has the hexagon shaped flange portion F for screwing it in the elbow A, and on its other end the distributing cap or head G, having the series of discharge openings H and the circular closed wall J. The said wall J, of the distributer E fits the opening K, of the cross arm L, of the cone-shaped mixing chamber M, said mixing chamber having the air inlet opening M, the globular portion N, and the threaded portion 0. It will Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. '7, 1916.
Application filed. April 5, 1915. Serial No. 19,197.
thus be understood that the gas passes through the elbow A, into distributer E, and by way of the distributing openings H, into the mixing chamber M, thereby causing a thorough mixing of the gas with the air which is admitted through opening M, by reason of the globular portion N, which causes the gas and air to have an eddying movement thereby mixing the gas and air more thoroughly.
Engaging the thread receiving portion 0 of the mixing chamber M, is the threaded end P, of the coupling Q, said coupling having a globular or enlarged portion R, which causes the gas and air to keep up the eddying movement and also the coupling has the threaded receiving portion S. Engaging the threaded receiving portion S, is the threaded end T of the pipe nipple U, having the threaded end T engaging the thread receiving portion V of the burner head V, having the holes or openings W to allow the exit of the gas for ignition.
It will be apparent that the gas is fed to the elbow and thence to the distributer which by reason of the series of openings thoroughly divides the gas into a series of jets or streams. The streams are supplied to the conical mixing chamber with air and in this state the gas is again thoroughly mixed after leaving the mixing chamber and supplied in perfect condition to the burner head insuring the highest efliciency for the purposes intended.
From the foregoing description it will be apparent that I furnish a burner that will be simple, durable and desirable from every point of view; one that will be inexpensive to make and economical in consumption of gas; and one that will be compact and neat of appearance, and which will be of use in any place where a gas burner is desired.
I claim:
The combination in a gas burner with a cone shaped mixing chamber and a supply pipe having a distributer projecting in said chamber, of air inlets to said chamber, a cross-arm formed with an opening to receive said distributer, a globular chamber integral with and communicating with said cone shaped chamber, whereby the currents of air and gas are commingled by the eddying movement given the currents of air and gas by said globular chamber, a burner head, a pipe leading thereto, and a coupling connecting said pipe and mixing chamber, said coupling having a second globular chamber in communication with the first concave chamber, whereby the eddying movement of the air and gas is continued causing a further commingling of the air and gas.
In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature inpresence of two Witnesses.
ROBERT R. ARMOR.
