WINDOW-SCREEN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 29, 1916.
Application filed. March 27, 1915. Serial No. 17,445.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HARMoN I-I. SoRToRE, a-citizen of the United States, residing at Friendship, in the county of Allegany and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful. Improvements in Window- Soreens, of which the following is a specification. 1 5
This invention relates to window screens and more particularly to the class of window screens which are provided with a series of blinds arranged in superposed relation in the frame of the screen.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a window screen which will contain both a screen for preventing insects and the like from gaining access to the interior and a series of blinds for preventing rain, snow or hail from entering the room without excluding the fresh air.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a window screen of this character which will be telescopic and adjustable to all widths of windows.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a window screen having blinds therein which may be adjusted to any suitable angle.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a window screen which will be simple of construction, durable and eflicient v in use and inexpensive to manufacture.
In the drawing :-Figure 1 is a front elevation of my window screen. Fig. 2 is a. horizontal sectional view on the line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a vertical transverse view on the line 44. of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of one end of one of the blinds. Fig. 6 is a detail perspective view of the opposite end of the blind.
Referring to the drawings by numerals the numeral 1 designates one of the sections of the main frame of the device which is adapted to be mounted on the other section 2 for telescopic movement. The telescoping of the sections 1 and 2 is accomplished by having the section 2 provided with grooves 3 along the marginal edges of the upper and lower sides and adapted to have the edges of the upper and lower sides of section 1 slidably mounted in the grooves. The section 1 has a partition 4 arranged adja cent the end wall 5 for a purpose which will -be hereinafter described.
An ordinary adjustable screen 6 is mounted in the frame and has its sidebars 8 and 7 secured to the partition 4 and the end Wall 4' of the section 2 respectively. In this manner the frame and screen may be adjusted simultaneously to fit any width of window frame.
In order to exclude the rain, snow and hail I provide a series of blinds 11 arranged one above the other andthese blinds 11 are each made in sections 12 and 18 and designed to telescope each other by having the sections 13 provided with grooves 14 through which the longitudinal edgesof the section 12 are slidably mounted. The section 13 is provided with pivot extensions 15 which are formed integrally therewith and which are adapted to be pivoted in the end wall 4 of the frame 3. Each of the sections 12 is provided with a crank 16 which has its portion 17 extended through openings in the partition 4. The end portion 18 of the crank is adapted to .be received by a connecting bar 19 which connects all the cranks 16 together and is provided with a finger knob 20. The space between the partition 4 and the end wall 5 of the frame has a closure 21 in which is out an opening 22 provided with notches 23 in any one of which the finger knob 20 is adapted to rest so that by raising or lowering the knob 20, the blinds, through the medium of the cranks 16 and theconnecting bar 19, may be positioned at any desired angle .in the frame.
I claim 1. The combination with telescopic frame and pivoted telescopic blinds mounted therein, of a telescopic screen mounted in the frame- 2. The. combination with a frame composed of telescopic sections, a compartment formed in one of said sections and a plurality of telescopic blinds pivotally mounted in said frame, of a telescopic screen member, carried bythe frame and means positioned in the compartment for adjusting the blinds.
3. The combination with a frame composed of telescopic sections, a compartment formed in one of said sections, a plurality of superposed telescopic blinds pivotally mounted in said frame, a hook member' formed on one end of each blind and a partition of said compartment serving as a bearing for said blinds, cranks formed on the blinds and positioned in the compartment, means for connecting the cranks for simultaneous movement, a closure for said If compartment having a slot with one edge serrated, and means secured to said crank connecting means and operating in the slot for adjusting the blinds, of a telescopic screen member mounted in said frame In testimony whereof I afiix my signature 1-5 in presence of two Witnesses.
