Description

PATENT 'QFFIGE.
CHARLES MCILVAINE, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN PRINTERS INK.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 117,313, dated July 25, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known Ihtt I, CHARLES MCILVAINE, of the city of Philadelphia, in the State of Penn' sylvania, have invented a new and Improved Black Copying Printers Ink, whereby, when paper is printed upon in this ink, impression copies can be made from this printing in the same manner as from printing done in ordinary copying writing-inks, and of such consistency and character as to be used for printing on printing-presses.
This I accomplish by using a soluble black coloring matter in connection with glycerine, together with soluble gums, acids, and saccharine matter, as to accomplish the purpose set forth.
The present invention relates to an improvement upon the black ink recited in Letters Patent No. 108,615, dated October 25, 1870; and consists in substituting for the extract of logwood, bichromate of potassa, Prussian blue, 6850., therein employed, extract of gall, sulphate of iron, and acid-sulphate of indigo, compounded in the manner hereinafter described.
In making my ink I take six parts of extract of galls and dissolve in twenty-tour parts of water, five parts of pure sulphate of iron and dissolve in twelve parts of water, one part of sulphate of indigo acid; the Whole is thoroughly mixed together and five parts of glycerine added; evaporate by rapid heat to a thick paste, and add two parts of rock-candy, tWo parts of gum arabic, dextrine, or starch, and one part of lamp-black or sepia; or, in place of extract of galls, five parts of tannic acid and one part of gallic acid may be used, in connection with the other ingredients, to accomplish the purpose set forth.
I claim as my invention- An improved black copyable printers ink, composed of the ingredients, 2 0., a black coloring matter in connection with glycerine, together with soluble gums, acid, and saccharine matter, substantially as specified.
