The object of my present invention ,is to provide a combination lof a hook with a lock which is especially adapted to be used in connection with railway-cars, barns, sheds,

It is an essential feature of my new construction, that it does not require any changes to be made on the door of the car, &c., and that my new hook, isused in eX- actly the same manner, as the old ones which were used hitherto, so that new hooks can be substituted for the old ones without any trouble.

Another advantage of the new invention consists therein, that the lock, which is. ar.- ranged slidab-,ly vconnected with my new hook, can be fixed at will either in Ainoperative position, allowing my'new hook to be used just as an ordinary hook, or after clenching the hook the lock can be brought into a position, in which it locks the hook automatically, so that ,the door cannot be opened again but by the person who has the keys for unlocking the hook.

In order to more clearly disclose the construction, operation, and use of the invention, reference should be had to the accompanying drawings forming part of the present application.

In the drawings: Figure 1 shows a side elevation of my new hook with the lock being in unlocked position; and Fig. 2 shows the same parts in the position of being locked.

In the shown embodiment of my invention the shaft 1 has as usual at its one end an eye 2 and at its other end a hook 3 for Securing it by a bolt at the one part and for clenching it on the other side into a staple fixed at the other part of a double-winged sliding door or at a door and its frame respectively. In order to unlock the hook a key `must be introduced through the key-hole and by a small turn of the key-bit the counter-arm 17 of the catchl 'lf the reiht :3 0f the i 'i on the plug 21 whereupon the projection 6 can pass the catch and the whole box 7, 8 with the locking tongue4 23 can be reshifted to the left side (Fig. l) which allows the hook to be opened again.

It is thought that the-construction, operation, and use of the invention will be clear from the preceding detailed description.

Changes may be made in the construction, arrangement, and'disposition of the several parts of the invention without in any way departing from the field and scope of the same, and it is meant to include all such within this application wherein only a preferred form has been disclosed.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to securel by Letters Patent is:

l. Ina combined hook and lock for doors the combination of a shaft with an eye at one end and a hook on its other end; a shell slidably mounted on the shaft with a tongue-like projection extending on the shell along the shaft and adapted to engage the point of the hook; means arranged on the shaft and 011 the inner side of the shell adapted to lock the shaft and shell together, when the tongue lof the shell is in engagement with the point of the hook.

Ina combined hook and lock for doors the combination of a shaft with an eye at one end and a hook on its other end anda notch and a projection at the side of same in its middle part; a shell slidably mounted on the middle part of the shaft; a tonguelike projection on the shell extending along the shaft and adapted to engage the point 'f of the hook; a spring-pressed catch arranged within the shell and adapted to engage the notch at the side of the projection in the middle part of the shaft, when the shell is shifted to that position in which its tongue-like projection engages the point of the hook.

In a combined hook and lock for doors the combination of a shaft with van eye at one end and a hook on its other end; a shell slidably mounted on the shaft; a tongue like projection on the shell extending along the shaft, and adapted to engage the point of the hook; means on the shaft and on the inner side of the shell, adapted to lock the shaft and shell together, when the shell is at the one end of the shaft where its tongue is in engagement with the point of the hook; and other means on the shaft and on the inner side of the shell, adapted to lock the shaft and shell together, when the shell is at the opposite end of the shaft to that position in which the tongue engages the point of the hook.

In a combined hook and lock for doors the combination of a shaft with an eye at one end and a hook at its other end; a shell slidably mounted on the shaft and provided with a tongue like lateral projection adapted to engage with the point of the hoolr; a notch at the side of a projection on the middle part of the shaft within the shell; a twoarmed member hinged within the shell, the one catch-shaped arm of which is adapted to engage into the notch on the shaft, when the tongue on the shell engages with the point of the hook; a Hat spring fixed within the shell and pressing on the other arm of the two-armed member; a wedge-shaped projection on the shaft opposite to the aforementioned 'notch and projection; a two-armed lever hinged within the shell, with a catch-shaped arm, which is adapted to engage behind the aforementioned Wedge shaped projection of the shaft, and a vlatch-shaped arm which projects to outside of the shell; and a spring fixed within the shell, adapted to press the last mentioned catch-shaped arm down on the shaft; substantially as described and illustrated.
