Be it known that I, JAMES IVILLIAMSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Ceiling-Light Hangers, of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.

My invention relates to devices for hanging lighting fixtures from the ceiling or other places.

The principal object of the invention is to provide a simple, practical and effective device of the class mentioned and especially to arrange to secure perfect adjustment or positioning of the fixture when hung.

Other objects of the invention will appear hereinafter.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a View partly in elevation and partly .in vertical section of a fixture hanging arrangement embodying my invention, together with a xture and globe supported thereby; Fig. 2 is a view of a portion of the hanger; Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1 of a modified form of device; Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. L` showing part of the modification of Fig, s.

In the drawings I show a lighting fixture such as the shell or casing 1, which is adapted to be fitted or mounted against the ceiling or other structure. A Shade or globe 2 is shown Supported by the fixture 1. The fixture 1 is shown below a structure 3 which may be assumed to be the ceiling of a room or apartn'ient. A junction box 4 is shown fitted in a cavity or recess in the ceiling 3. This junction box as shown more particularly in Fig. 2 may be in the form of a circular metallic member with a downwardly extending rim so as to form a chamber G. Screws 7 are Shown passing through the bottom of the box 4 so as to hold the same in position in the ceiling. The junction box 4 shown in Fig. 1 is provided with a downwardly projecting member 8 having a threaded stud f). said member 8 being secured to the floor ol.' the box 4 by means of screws 10. It often happens that junction boxes such as the box 4 are set in the walls or ceiling in improper positions, for example at an inclination to the ceiling as shown in exaggerated form in Fig. 1. In such case a fixture applied or secured directly to such a junction box might also be at an improper inclination or otherwisev improperly adjusted. It is to avoid this difficulty that my invention is aimed. To this end I provide a washer or device 11 having a threaded aperture adapted to fit over the threaded stud 9. This washer 11 is provided with side apertures 12. Rods 14 provided. with hooked ends 15 are engaged by the washer 11, the hooked ends 15 passing into the apertures 12. The lower ends of the rods 14 extend through aper` tures in the fixture 1 and nuts or beads 17 are applied to the ends of said rods 14, the ends of said rods 14 being threaded so as t0 permit adjustment of said beads 17 to engage the fixture 1 and permit the same to be adjusted properly in position, as4 for example against the ceiling 3. Thus the im proper positioning of the junction box 4 will not cause the lighting fixture to be improperly hung, but on the contrary the lighting fixture may be firmly and edectively secured in proper position. y

In the modification shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the junction box 4 is shown provided with lugs 20 projecting inwardly from the lower edge of the box and these lugs are provided with apertures 21. The rods 14 are shown with their hooked ends in engage ment with the lugs 20 instead of With' the washer ll, as in Fig. 1.

1. The combination with a junction box and a lighting fixture, of rods hooked at their upper ends and having said ends de tach ably engaged with the junction box, and having their lower ends threaded and extended through the wall of said fixture, and iut devices on the projected threaded ends of said rods.
