To all 'whom z't may concern Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN ERICKSON,
va citizen of the United States, residing at York, in the county of Benson and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ventilators, of
' and improved means whereby a single berth may be ventilated with convenience and facility.V`
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my im` proved ventilator whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device is i'endered simpler, less expensive and other' wise more convenient and advantageous for use,'all as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel feature of the invention will be carefully defined in the appended claim.
In order that my invention 'may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view vtakenthrough a ventilator constructed` in accordance with an embodimentiof my inj `vention and 1n applied position; and Fig.

As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, W denotes a portion of a wall of a car adjacent a berth section and through which is disposed the sleeve 1 terminating in its outer extremity with the angular disposed funnel 2. The inner extremity of the tubular member or sleeve is intersected by the cross bars 3 provided at their intersecting portion with the thimble 4 through which is disposed the elongated shank 5 carried by the cap member 6, said cap member bein interiorly threaded, as at 7, and adapte for ldetachable engagement with the threaded portion 8 of the inner extremity of the sleeve or tubular member 1. It is to be observed that the shank 5 is of such a length as to permit the vcap or closure member 6 to be adjusted away from the inner extremity-of the sleeve or tubular member 1 when re quired and in orderto limit the outward movement of the cover or closure member 6, I have the inner extremity of the shank 5 surrounded bythe annular member 9 but held agaist displacementby the cross pin 10.
Surrounding the inner extremity of the ktubular member or sleeve 1 is a barrel 11 vhaving its inner extremity provided with an annular flange 12 suitably secured to the inner face of the wall IV, and provided with an elongated horizontally disposed slot 14 into which is adapted to project the shank -15 of the headed member 16 threaded through the inner projected portion of theA tubular member or sleeve 1, whereby it will be perceived that the requisite axial rotation may be imparted to the tubular member or sleeve 1 to control the position of the funnel 2. The slot 14 is preferably cfa length to permit the tubular member or sleeve 1 tol be rotated 180 degrees so that the funnel may be disposed directly forwardly of'the train or rearwardly thereof, as the requirements of practice may dictate.
VUnder certa-in conditions it has been desirable to maintain the funnel in adjustments less than 180 degrees and for this reason I provide the inner projected portion of the tubular member or sleeve 1 with the openings or perforations 17 into which is adapted to be projected the spring member 18 carried by the annular flange 12 and operating in a manner which is believed to be with the annular flange 12 while theiouter cone is adapted to coact with an annular plate 20 secured to the outer face of the wall and surrounding the tubular member or sleeve 1. As is tbelieved to be self-evident, suitable anti-friction members are interposed between the cones 19 and the'coacting iiange 12 and annular plate 20.
From the foregoing description, .it is thought to be obvious that a ventilator constructed in accordance with my invention is of an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience 'and facility with which it may be assembled,
and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without material departure from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of theseveral parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice.
I claim:
The combination of a `Ventilating Atribe having a spider arranged in one end thereof provided with a central sleeve in axial alinement with the tube, a cap member of concavo-conveX disk-like form provided at its edge with internal screw threads, said ventilating tube having complementary external screw threads, a stem projecting axially from the inner face'of the cap and slidably engaged in said sleeve whereby the cap is supported in spaced relation to the end of the Ventilating tube when said tube is open,
