EDGAR R. GERARD, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR T0 LARNED, CARTER & COM- PANY, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN, A CORPORATION OF MICHIGAN.
PENCIL-POCKET FOR OVERALLS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 18, 1916.
Application field April 20, 1914. Serial No. 833,235.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, EDGAR R. GERARD, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Detroit, in the county of Vayne and btate of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pencil-Pockets for Overalls, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein t0 the accompanying drawings.
The invention relates to garments and more particularly to overalls of that type in which there is a bib section having a central seam connecting sections on opposite sides thereof. v
It is the object of the invention to obtain a laterally-extending pencil pocket arranged in the upper portion of the bib and having its opening formed by the omission of stitching in the central seam.
It is a further object to utilize the hem at the top of the bib in forming this pocket, and further to combine this lateral pocket with a vertically-extending pocket as hereinafter set forth.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a front elevation of the garment; Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on line y- Q/ Fig. l; and Fig. 3 is a vertical section on line m-a/z.
A is the bib portion of the garment, which is formed of sections united by a central seam B.
C is a hem at the upper end of the bib and which is stitched to the main portion along the line D.
To form the pencil pocket, the stitching which unites the opposite sections of the bib is omitted along the line E, which is intermediate the stitching line D and the hem. This permits of inserting a pencil, such as F, into the opening and extending it laterally in the loop of the hem.
The bib is also preferably provided with a vertically-extending pocket having its opening G formed by omission of the stitching between the points H and I. The back of this pocket is formed by a separate piece stitched along the lines J and attached to the bib section before the formation of the hem. Thus there is no interruption in the lateral pocket by reason of the stitching J for the vertically-extending pocket.
What I claim as my invention is 1. In a garment, a bib formed of two sections seamed together, and a hem at the edge of said bib extending transverse to said seam forming a laterally-extending pocket the opening of said pocket being formed by the omission of stitching in said seam.
2. In a garment, a bib formed of two sections united by a vertically extending seam, a pocket stitched to said bib and extending upon opposite sides of said seam, and a hem at the upper end of said bib forming a laterally-extending pocket, the openings of both of said pockets being formed by omission of stitching in said seam.
In testimony whereof I atlix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EDGAR R. GERARD.
