TOY PISTOL.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEWIS S. BIXLER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Kenton, in the county of Hardin and, State of Ohio, have invented a new and. Improved Toy Pistol, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention has for its object to provide a toy pistol having an anvil within the pistol casing with a recess in the casing in front of the anvil so that a projection on the hammer will be disposed over the anvil and in the recess when the hammer is seated on the anvil, to prevent sparks from flying when a cap is exploded against the anvil. The hammer is constructed to form a continuation of the upper surface of the casing when the hammer is seated against the anvil.
Additional objects of the invention will appear in the following specification in which the preferred form of my invention is disclosed.
In the drawings similar reference characters refer to similar parts in all the views in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation illustrating my pistol; Fig. 2 is a view illustrating one of the sides of the casing, the second other side having been removed; Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view similar to that shown in Fig. 2, but with the hammer seated against an anvil; and Fig. 1 is a fragmentary plan view of the casing.
By referring to the drawings it will be seen that the casing is constructed in two parts 10 and 11, the said parts being held together by means of a screw or rivet 12. At the top of the casing there is an opening 13 through which a cap may be disposed so that it will lie against the anvil 14, the cap resting on a seat 15. At the rear of the opening 13 there are lugs 16 which extend inwardly from the casing members 10 and 11, these lugs 16 being spaced apart so that the hammer 17 may pass between them to strike against the anvil 14. This hammer 17 has a forwardly projecting upper portion 18 which is disposed for resting in a recess 19 in the casing which is disposed at the top of the anvil 14. This projecting portion 18 when it rests in the recess 19, serves to prevent sparks and fragments of the exploded cap from flying without the Specification of Letters Patent.

The projecting part 18 of the hammer 17, when the hammer 17 is seated against the anvil 14 is disposed to form a continuation of the upper surface20 of the casing, the top of the hammer being substantially flush with the top of the casing so that the pistol will resemble an automatic magazine pistol. The rear 21 of the hammer is slightly curved and its upper surface is milled so that it may be readily moved backwardly in a manner readily understood.
The hammer 17 moves in a slot 22 in the casing at the rear of the opening 13. The hammer 17 is pivoted at 23 within the casing and the hammer has a lug 2 1 for engagement by a shoulder 25 on a pawl 26, the said pawl 26 being pivoted at 23 and being engaged by the rearwardly extending arm 27 of the trigger 28, the arm 27 resting againsta guide member 29 and the arm 30 of the trigger 28 being disposed between the guide members 31 and 32. There is a lug 33 on the arm 30 for engaging the guide member 31, to limit the outward movement of the trigger 28. The hammer 17 is provided with a shoulder 35 against which the end 36 of the spring 37 is disposed, the other end 38 of the spring 37 being disposed against a lug 39 in the casmg.
Having thus described my invention I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In a toy pistol, a casing having an anvil and a cap seat and a hammer for striking the anvil and having a projection ex tending over the anvil with its upper surface fiush with the top of the casing when the hammer is seated on the anvil.
2. In a toy pistol, a casing having a cap opening, and a slot in the rear thereof, an anvil disposed within the casing adjacent the cap opening, and a hammer operable from within the casing and disposed in the slot, the upper surface of the hammer being flush with the top of the casing when the hammeris seated against the anvil.
3.
