HOISTING BUCKET.

HOISTING-BUCKET.
LllfitiAllltl.
Application filed. February 14, 1912, Serial No. 677A11.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE E. C0011, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hoisting-Buckets, of which the following is a. specification.
This invention relates to hoisting buckets and its object is to provide a bucket having doors at the bottom which may be opened for the dumping of the bucket without being hinged so that the parts will not rust and clog and the work delayed and hampered as will be more fully described in the following specification, set forth in the claim and illustrated in the drawings, wherein,
Figure 1 is a. side elevation of the bucket with the bottom opened. Fig. 2 is a similar view with the bottom closed. Fig. 3 shows a modified form of the bucket showing means for the closing of the bucket by hand. Fig. 4c shows the same closed. Fig. 5 is an end view of Fig. l.
The bucket 10 may be of ordinary construction and have a flange 11 at its upper end and similar reinforcing means 12 at its lower end. The bottom of this bucket not hinged, but is divided into sections, 13 and 14, attached to the bucket by means of links 15, so that they may swing aside as shown in Fig. 1.
Yi hen the bucket is loaded and is being hoisted, the doors 13 and 1d at the bottom are closed by means of links 16 attached to a bail 17 upon which the strain is put and as long as the bail 17 supports the weight of the bucket, the doors are closed, but when the strain is released, the bail 18 still carry ing the bucket, the bail 17 is freed to move downward, lowering the link 16 so as to permit the doors l3 and l i to open.
As will be seen in Figs. 3 and 4, the bail 18 only is used for the handling of the bucket, and to open the doors 13 and 14, a lever 19 may be employed and is connected with the links 16 by means of a. chain 20, or otherwise passing over the pulley 21.
Patented Dec. 28, 1915.
Renewed May M, 1815. Serial No. 28,288.
When the doors are closed as shown in F i g. 4;, the lever and its connection are passed beyond the centers 01 the pulley 21 and the pivot 22 so that the doors are locked in place, but by removing the lever a short dlstance, the doors are released and pen mittcd to open. A stop 16 is mounted upon the bucket in the path of movement of the upper portions oi the links 16 as clearly shown in the drawing.
This bucket is built of sheet metal with reinforced edges and the; connections are made by means of rods 23 and 2e, passing beneath the doors and affording pivots or journals for the links. In this construction the usual hinges are done away with and as the doors clear the bottom of the bucket, the contents are free to drop out without clogging the parts.
it is obvious that the parts may be otherwise arranged or modified without departing from the essential features above de scribed.
l Vhat l. claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,
A bucket comprising a body, relatively short links pivoted to the sides of the body. bottom sections pivoted to the free ends of said links, relatively long links pivoted to the bottom sections and pivot-ally connected with each other at their upper ends, the points of pivotal connection between the she t and long links and the bottom sections being at different distances from the edges of the said bottom sect-ions, whereby the movement the link swings the bottom sections from closed to opened positions and vice versa and the sections are held spaced from the body while in open position, and a t mounted upon the body in thepath of movement of the upper portions of the longer links.
In testimony whereof: I atiiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
