Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Dec. 2, 19015.
Application filed March 20, 1915. Serial No. 15,829.
This invention has for its object to pro vide a simple and efiicient heater especially designed for heating the liquid contents of a tank or the like.
Another object is the provision of a tank heater including a casing adapted to be partly submerged in a liquid to be heated and containing a preferred type of burner associated with a heating drum of hollow formation communicating with pipes extending through the casing.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in'the novel construction, arrangement and formation of parts as will be hereinafter specifically described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which:
Figural represents a vertical central sectional view through the heater. Fig. 2 representsa top plan view thereof, partly in section.
Referring to the drawing in detail, wherein similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 5 indicates the casing of the heater which may be of poly onal or cylindrical formation, as desired, and includes an imperforate bottom 6 and a removable top or cover 7. An air intake pipe 8 is secured externally of the casing 5 and is provided with an angularly directed lower extremity 9 extending into and communicating with the interior of the casing whereby air is supplied to the burner. Air outlet pipes 10 are arranged within the eas- 5 and communicate with apertures formed in the cover 7 to permit the products of combustion to escape. A drum 11 of hollow formation and preferably annular signed to conduct the water to and from the drum 11. The water inlet pipe 12 is arranged in a lower horizontal plane than the outlet pipe 13 so as to insure proper circulation of the water through the drum during operation of the heater. A burner 14 is supported upon the bottom 6 beneath the drum 11 and is adaptedto be supplied with asuitable liquid fuel contained in the tank 15 by a fuel'pipe 16. Pairs of crossed and communicating water pipes 17 are secured at their ends in the inner vertical wall of the drum 11 and communicate with the water chamber 18 in the latter to accelerate heating of the liquid contents thereof. A defieetor plate '19 is arranged over the drum 11.
In use, the casing 5 is partially submerged in water contained within a suitable tank, not shown, in such position that the cover and air inlet pipe 8 are disposed above the surface of the water. The water in the tank is admitted to the drum 11 through the inlet pipe 12 and is discharged after it has been heated by the burner 14, through the pipe 13, and thus the water contained within the tank is circulated through the drum 11 until thoroughly heated.
What I claim is:
A tank heater comprising a casing, a removable cover for said casing, an air pipe extending through the lower portion of said casing and upwardly along the side wall thereof, a burner arranged in said casing, a. fuel pipe supported in and extending exteriorly above said casing and connected with said burner, a hollow annular drum disposed in said casing above said burner, outlet pipes for the products of combustion communicating with the interior of said casing near the bottom thereof and extending ANTON HERZINGER.
