IMPROVEMENT IN ICE-CREAM FREEZERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 116,584, dated July 4, 1871.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, CHARLES GoocI-I, of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improven1 ent in Ice-Cream Freezers, of which the following is a specification The first part of my invention relates to an elastic knife-edge attached to the long or scraping-blade of the dasher, adapted to conform to the inequalities of the interior surface of the freezer. The second part of myinvention relates to the concave form of the bottom of the freezer, which permits its standing in a vertical position upon the floor when removed from the tub, without interierence from the central step.

Figure l is a vertical section of an ice-cream tub and freezer containing my improved dasher. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same.

A is the tub, in the center of the bottom of which is secured the socket a, to receive the step b of the freezer B. To the stem 0 of the dasher D are attached, by means of arms, the narrow and removed blades 0 and (I, respectively. The former is attached to the stem 0, to which its outer edge is parallel, without extending near to the inner surface of the freezer, as does the outer edge of the blade (I. To the blade (I is attached, by means of thin plates of steel or other elastic material 6, the scrapingblade E. It is narrow, and of the same length as the blades of the dasher. It is removeda little distance from the outer edge of the blade dot the dasher to allow a free passage of the cream behind the blade, to prevent resistance to the easy motion of the da-sher. The bottom of the freezer B is concave outwardly, and is provided with the central step b, which is socketed in the socket to. The step does not project downward below the plane of the bottom rim f of the freezer, in order that the freezer may sit square 011 the floor when removed from the tub, without the liability of overturnin The advantage of the attached knife-edge or scraping-blade to the outer edge of the removed blade d of the ice-cream dasher is to accommodate its edge to the inequalities of the inner surface of the freezer, and thus remove all congealed particles of cream, and expose the surface of the freezer, which is immediately covered by uncongealed cream.

I claim as my invention- 1. The knife-edge or scraping-blade E, in combination with two or more elastic metal springs attached to the outer edge of dasher D, when constructed substantially in the manner and for the purpose specified.

2. The concave bottom of the can B, of sheet or cast metal, made so that the central pivot upon which the can revolves shall not project below the level of the outer edge of the can, so that the can will stand steady upon a level surface.
