I DRAFT HOOK. APPLICATION FILED APR-13, 1914- RENEWED MAY 29. 1915.

Wiiueooeo JOEL R. KING, OF EAGLE LAKE, FLORIDA.
DRAFT-HOOK.
Application filed April 13, 1914, Serial No. 831,570. Renewed May 29, 1915.
Y '0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OEL R. KING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Eagle Lake, in the county of Polk and State of Florida, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Draft-Hooks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to draft-hooks.
The object of the invention is to provide an article of this character adapted more particularly for fastening and unfastening swingletrees used in connection with plows, cultivators and other implements, which shall be simple in construction, thoroughly efficient and durable in use, and in which the looking or releasing of the article to and from position may readily and easily be eifected.
With the above and other objects in view, as will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in a novel draft hook, hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which like characters of reference designate corresponding parts, the figure is a view in side elevation of a draft hook constructed in accordance with the present invention.
The draft hook is of S shape and may be constructed either of wrought or malleable cast iron, and has each terminal provided with an eye 1, preferably of the closed type. Each of these eyes is engaged by one end of a link 2, the other end of each of which e11- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented 1080.28, 1915.
Serial No. 31,309.
gages with an inwardly projecting barbed head or catch 3 carried by a spring 4 which may be assembled with the intermediate portion of the hook in any suitable manner, as by lifting. The bar of each spring is designed to lie sufficiently close to the adjacent portion of the hook to prevent accidental separation therefrom of the link, and the spring has to be of such a length as to permit of its being readily forced outward so as to free the link from engagement with the barb.
It will be seen from the foregoing description that to connect or disconnect the hook from a swingletree will require but a small amount of labor, and further that by the coaction between the links and the barbs on the spring catches, that accidental release of the links is precluded.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
A draft hook comprising a shank having a curved end portion, the curved end terminating in an eye, a'link carried by the eye, and a leaf spring having one end secured to the shank and normally lying flat against the same, said spring having a barb on the free end thereof, the link being adapted to engage over the barb and be thereby retained in engagement with the spring.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aliix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JOEL R. KING.
