ELEGTBOGUTING DEVICE.
Devices; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art' to which it appertains to make and use the same.
1 My invention relates to improvements in electrocuting devices and has for its object to provide such an article which will efiectively guard the entrances of rooms, dwellings, vaults, business houses and the like, used for the retention of valuables, against entrance by thieves, burglars, or other persons with felonious or other malicious intent.
Another object of my invention is to provide a device which can be used as a oor mat in addition to its use as an electrocuting device.
In carrying out these objects, I employ certain novel features of construction and combination hereinafter described and claimed and shown in the drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is a top lan view-of a device constructed in accor ancewith the invention; Fig. 2 is a side view thereof, and Fig. 3 is a transverse section as seen on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
In this drawing, constituting a part of the resent application, the numerals 1 and 1' esignate a pair of parallel bus bars which lie parallel to and are spaced fromeach other as most clearly seen in Fig. 1.
Extending longitudinally toward the .busy
from the bar 1, is a plurality of conbar 1' tact plates 2 which are electrically connected to said bar 1 at one end, their outer ends being spaced from-the bar 1.
Lying between and spaced from the vari ous contact plates 2, is a second series of such plates 2 which are electrically connected with the bus bar 1, these two series of plates 2 and'2 being spaced proper dis-t tances by insulating blocks 3 which are dismg here shown as having parallel grooves Specification of Letters Iatent. Application filed. January 21, 1915. Serial No. 3,811.
free ends 0 each series of plates an osed at suitable intervals, these blocks be- Patented net. as, was.
opening through their upper ends, and receivmg the various plates 2 and 2', while the lower ends of the blocks are rounded as seen at 4 and are adapted to rest upon the floor -0f a bulldmg or uponany other appropriate form of support.
As most clearly seen in Figs. 1 and 2, the two bus bars 1 and .1'- are provided with binding posts 5 and 15 respectively upon which the terminals 6 and (Y-of a pair of current conducting wires are secured, the eflt'ect being that the circuit is broken until the gap between one plate 2 and one plate 2' j is bridged, whereupon such circuit will be completed. The result is, that when the current is turned on (by the provision of an ap- -'propriate switch not show and a person steps upon the device above described, the
circuitwill be completed by the feet of such person, thereby causing him to be either instantly killed or sevrel in ured. I
From the foregoing escription, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be seen that a very eiiicient article has been provided for carrying out the object of the invention, and that such article will not only be eficient. in operation, but will be very attractive as a floor mat when applied to use.
Y Numerous details of construction have been described herein, but it will be readily understood that these details need not be followed otherwise than as setforth in the appended claim.
I claim: .An electrocuting device designed to be used as a floor mat comprising a bus bar, a series of spaced parallel contact plates projecting laterally therefrom, a second bus bar spaced fi'om the free ends of said plates, a second series of parallel plates projectin' laterally from the second bus bar towar the first, and bein spaced from the first se ries ofplates, 'sai bus bars and said plates adapte to stand on their edges, rowsof supportin insulating blocks arranged he-v neath sai lates, onerow supportln the inner ends of the other series and forming the tion, said blocks having rounded bottoms my hand in presence of two subscribing witand provided at their tops with s aced parnesses.
allel grooves adapted to receive t e bottom v JAMES THOMAS ADAMS. edges of said plates, and means for connect- Witnesses: 5 ing said bus bars with electric wires. R. SESSEMAN,
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set SYLVIA Snssmun.
