A. J. ZAIVIZOWA DRAINING IDEVICE. APPLICATION FILED JULY so. 1915.
Patented Dea.

AUGUSTA. J. ZAMZOW, OF BARABOO, WISCONSIN.
DRAINING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
SPatented Dec. 14, 191.5.
Application led .Tuly 30, 1915. Serial No. 42,812.
Be it known that I, AUGUSTA J. ZAMzow, a citizen of the United States,'residing at Baraboo, inthe county of Sauk, vState of Wisconsin, have invented -certain new and useful Improvements in Dra-ining Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear', and exact description of the invention, such as ,will enable others skilled inthe art to which it appertains toimake A and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in draining devices and particularly to. devices for draining clothes when they are lifted from the wash boiler.
One obj-ect of the invention is to provide a novel and efficientjdevice which can` be plaeed on one end of the wash boiler in a "convenient position to receive the clothes as carried without danger ofthe water dripping to the floor.
Other objects and advantages -will be apparent from the following description wheny taken in connection with the accompanying v drawing.
In the drawing: Figure 1 isa side elevation of my invention applied to a, wash boiler, Fig."2"is a topplanview, Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-8 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is a bottom plan view of the drainer.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing, 10 represents the wash boiler which is preferably elongated,l and on one end of which my drainer is adapted to be placed. The'drainer comprises a receptacle having a bottom 11 with vthe straightl and vertical wall 12 and the'curved inclined` wall T3. disposed at the side opposite to the wall 12 and connected to the said wall 12 by the vertical wall 14;. In the .bottom 11, adjacent the wall 12 isa perforated area 15,- and secured to the lower of the wall thereof.
side of the bottom surrounding the perforated area Kis a downwardly tapering discharge spout 16. Hinged t'o one edge of this spout is a valve 17 provided with a suitable leather packing 18 adapted to bear againstjthe lower edge of the spoutand thus prevent the escape of water while the drainer is being carried. Secured to the bottom, at a point' centrally of ,the lower edge of the curved wall are a pair of spaced lugs 19 which are adapted to straddle the upper edge of the end of the wash boiler to hold the d'rainer from slipping therefrom. The valve 17 is provided with a projecting y lip 20 to which is connected one end of a coil spring 21. Carried by the other end of the vspring are a pair of hooks 22 and 23, the former of which serves as a finger hold, while the latter is adapted tov engage over the upper edge of the wall 12, to hold the lvalve 17 firmly against the lower edge of the spout 16.
In the operation of the device the drainer is placed over one end of the Washboiler with the lugs 19 embracing the upper edge The 'hook 23 is released from the upper edge of the wall 12 so as to permit the valve 17 to swing into open position. The clothes from the boiler .can then be lifted up and placed in the drainer, the water therefrom passing through the openings at 15 and through the spout back into the boiler. -Vvhen it is desired to carry the drainer with the clothes to another place, the hook 23 is engaged over the edge ofthe wall 12 so as to close the valve 17. Then by grasping the handles 24, the drainer can be lifted from the boiler and convenientlyV carried without danger of the water dripping therefrom.
What is claimed is:
A clothes draining device comprising a receptacle adapted tobe placed over one end of. a clothes boiler, 'means carried by the drainer for engagement with the upper edge of the wall of the boiler to prevent slipping of the drainer, a perforated area formed in the bottom of the drainer, a downwardly tapering spout secured to the bottom of the drainer and surroundingy the perforated area, a valve movably connected to the In testimony whereof, I afx my signalower end of Itlhef spou, a rsilllent 1elemenI ture, in thepresenoe of two Witnesses.
