Description

E. E. HAUER.
TUBE CLEANER.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 19. 1914.
1,163,661.- V Patented Dec. 14, 1915.
q/v vtmuooeo I HM SHO uni; as snares radiant ELJMER E. BAUER, 0F SPRINGFIELD, OHIO,'ASSIG1 TOB TO THE LAGONDA MANUFAC- TURING COMPANY, OF SPRINGFIELD, OI-IIO, A CORPORATION OF OHIO.
TUBE-CLEANER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed September 18, 1914. Serial No. 862,477.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELMER E. HAUER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Springfield, in the county of Clark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tube-Cleaners, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to tube cleaners and more particularly to a rotary tubecleaner adapted to be driven at a high speed.
lhe object of my invention is to provide a simple and etlicient cleaner ofthis class that can be easily assembled and readily taken apart. a
A further object is to provide the cleaner with alternative means for attachment to the driving means. 7
lVith these and other objects in view my invention consists of the constructions and combinations hereinafter described and set forth in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a plan view of a cleaner embodying my invention and Figs. 2 and 3 are sections taken on the lines 2,2 and 3'3 respectively of Fig. 1.
Like numerals represent the same parts in the several views.
In the drawings a body 1 having transverse projections 2 is provided with a central screw-threaded recess 3 at its rear end for attachment to a driving shaft; and in the event it is desired to attach the cleaner to driving means having a receiving socket, the rear end of the body is further provided with a reduced screw-threaded portion 4. Thus it will be seen the body of the cleaner is arranged to form either the male or female half of a coupling for attachment to the driving means. When the cleaner is attached to a shaft by the recess 3, a ring 5 is secured to the projection 4; to cover and protect the threads of said projection. Arms 6 having recesses 7 into which the projections 2 of the body extend are mounted on spindles 8 which extend through perforations in said arms and projections. Bolts 9 having heads at their front ends extend rearwardly through perforations in said arms and have cutters 10 mounted thereon on opposite sides of said arms. Said bolts are screw-threaded at their rear ends into plates 11 which are pivoted to swing on the spindles 8. Said spindles extend rearwardly into openings in said plates and are provided with enlarged portions 12 which extend between said plates and arms whereby said spindlesare held in place; and the bolts 9 being screw-threaded to said plates are also held in place thereby. It will be seen that by removing the swinging plates, the bolts, spindles, cutters and arms can all be removed and the cleaner completely disassembled.
Having thus described my invention I claim 1. In a rotary tube cleaner, a body having spindles with arms pivoted thereon to swing PatentedlDeo. 14: 1915:. V
transversely to the axis of the body, bolts with cutters thereon mounted in said arms and means for each arm engaging the bolt 7 and spindle therefor to keep said spindle from longitudinal movement in one direction and said bolt from longitudinal movement in the opposite direction, substantially as described. v
2. In a rotary tube, cleaner, a body having spindles with arms pivoted thereon to swing transversely to the axis of the body, bolts with cutters thereon mounted in said arms and means for each arm secured to the bolt and engaging the spindle thereof to keep said bolt from forward movement and said spindle from rearward movement and hold the same in place, substantially as described.
3. In a rotary tube cleaner, a body having spindles with'arms pivoted thereon to swing transversely to the axis of the body, bolts with cutters thereon mounted in said arms, means to keep the spindles from forward movement and the bolts from rearward movement and a swinging plate for each arm engaging the spindle and bolt therefor to prevent the rearward movement of said.
With cutters thereon mounted in said arms, In testimony whereof I have hereunto a plate for each arm pivoted to swing on aflixed my signature in the presence of two the arm spindle and secured to the arm bolt, Witnesses. said spindle and plate having engaging por- ELMER E.
