Be it known that, I, OLIVER WIoKI-IAM, a
subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Kya Lama, Chancery Lane, Newton, Singapore, Straits Settlements, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in or Relating to Apparatus for Filling Receptacles with Liquid, of which the following is a specification.
T his invention relates to improvements in apparatus for filling bottles, j are and other receptacles with'liquids and has for its Object to produce anrapparatus which shall be more simple in construction and more reliable in action'than those hitherto in use.
The essential featureof this inventionis the use in such an apparatus of a siphon having a single outlet or long leg and a double inlet or short leg each of said short legs or short leg members communicating with; a separate vessel or source of supply.

The cylinder M is fitted with a piston N having a valve V of the t flap -type therein as shown, the said piston being adapted to be reciprocated therein by means oi a bell crank lever P P supported on a shaft Q carried in twobrackets the said bell crank lever P P being connected to the piston N. by a connecting l nk S, the other end of the bell crank lever being made longenough to project above the level of the liquid and having a handle T by means of which it canv be operated as hereinafter described. When"siphonic' action will commence, the liquid running from the long leg I into the receptacle 5. Directly the siphonic action has commenced in the main siphon I Kan additional siphonic or suction action will be induced or set up in the leg I dipping into the auxiliary vessel Z, so'that if the rate of ingression of the liquid to the auxiliary vessel Z through the opening'J be less than the rate of egress of the liquid through the auxiliary short leg L of the siphon, it will be readily understood that the level of the liquid in the vessel Z will fall, and will continue 'to fall'untilit falls below the end of the leg'Ii. When this occurs, air will immed'iately rushup the auxiliary short leg; and break the siphonic action in theymain' system I K and thus stop further supply of liquid to the receptacle 5; The handle T is then pushed forward again to its initialposition, when the cylinder M will fill with liquidthrough the valve Vand the auxiliary vessel willalso refill. Whennow the lever P is nected with the cylinder M until the siin Fig. 2 connected to the end wall of the cylinder M,which construction may in some cases be preferable to that shown in Fig, 1.
Instead of connecting the auxiliary vessel with the liquid in the reservoir, it may be connected with an independent source of supply, for the admixture of syrup, flavoring or'other liquid, where the apparatus is used for filling receptacles with beverages. The auxiliary vessel also, need not be situated inside the main reservoir but may be outside thereof or in any; convenient relation thereto.
Where it is requiredto fill a number of vessels simultaneously, or-consecutively, a
number of siphons may be provided and adapted to be supplied from the same or independent sources, or the apparatus maybe arranged to work in connection with suitable automatic or hand operated means, such as a revolving turntable, traveling bands'or the like for feeding the receptacles to theapparatus, these means being, if necessary, connected with thepump mechanism. "so (as reservoir, an auxiliary reservoir, and a siphon having a single long leg and two short legs,,one'of said short legs being supported within the main reservoir, and the other short leg being supported within the auxiliary reservoir, and'pump mechanism comprising a valved piston and cylinder with means for operating the piston, substantially as and for the purpose described; 2. Apparafgis for filling receptacles with liquid comprising in combination, a siphon having a single long leg and two short legs, two liquid containing vessels, a connection between one short leg and one vessel, a mechanism operatively connected with said short leg and adapted to induce siphonic action in the siphon, a connection between the other short leg and the other vessel, and an adjustable mechanism connected with said other vessel, whereby the rateof flow of liquid therefrom through said siphon may be regulated, substantially as and for the purpose described.
6. Apparatus forfilling receptacles with liquid, comprising in combination a main reservoir, an auxiliary reservoir of smaller capacity than the main reservoir, a connection between the main reservoir and the auxiliary reservoir, a siphon having a single long leg and two short legs, a connection between one short leg and the main reservoir, a connection between the other short leg and the auxiliary reservoir, and a mechanism operatively connected with the shortleg in the main reservoir and adapted .to
induce siphonic action in the siphon, sub
stantially as and for the purpose described.
7. Apparatus for filling receptacles with liquid comprising in combination, a main reservoir, an auxiliary reservoir of smaller capacity'than the main reservoir and situ ated within the main reservoir, a connection between the main reservoir and the'auxiliary reservoir, a siphon having a single long leg and two short legs, a connection between one short leg-and the main reservoir, a connection between the other short leg and the auxiliary reservoir, and a mechanism operatively connected with the short leg in the main reservoir and adapted to induce siphonic action in the siphon, substantially as and for the purpose described.

Apparatus for filling receptacles with liquid comprising in combination, a main vessel, an auxiliary vessel of smaller capacity than the main vessel and situated within said main vessel, a connection between the main vessel and the auxiliary vessel, a siphon having a single long leg and two short legs, a connection between one short leg and the main vessel, a connection between the other short leg and the auxiliary vessel; a mechanism operatively connected with the short leg in the main vessel and adapted to induce siphonic action in the siphon, and an adjustable device connected with the auxiliary vessel and adapted to vary the rate of flow of liquid between the main vessel and the auxiliary vessel substantially as and for the purpose described.

Apparatus for filling receptacles with liquid, comprising in combination, a main reservoir, an auxiliary reservoir of smaller capacity than the main reservoir and situated within the'main reservoir, a connection between the-main reservoir and the auxiliary reservoir, a feed device for supplying liquid to the main reservoir, float mechanism situated within the main reservoir and operative upon such feed device to maintain the liquid in the reservoirs at a constant level, a siphon having a single long leg and two short legs,
a connection between one short leg and the, vmain reservoir, a connectlon between the other short leg and the auxiliary reservoir, andta mechanism operatively connected with the short leg in the main reservoir and adapted to induce siphonic action in the siphon, substantially as and for the purpose described.
