Description

L. SHORE.
QUILTING FRAME.
APPLICATION flu-:D MAIL 13. 1915.
Patented Dec. 7, 1915.
UNITED sTATEs PATENT oEErcE.
LURA SHORE, 0F BELLE PLAINE, KANSAS.
Application filed March 13, 1915.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, LUX-in SHORE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Belle Plaine, in the county of Sumner and State of Kansas, have invented certain neiT and useful Improvements in Quilting-Frames, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to devices for holding materials to be quilted, and its object is to provide a simple and easily adjustable,
two pairs of laterally spaced legs 5 whichv are connected by a cross rod 6. The meinbers of the respective pairs of legs are crossed and pivotally connected by the rod G, the stand being thus similar tov an ordinary sawbuck. The ends of the rod 6 are threaded to receive nuts 7 between which the legs are located. The upper ends of the legs are widened and provided with circular' bearing openings 8 from which extend straight slots 9 opening through the top edges of the legs. rllhe rollers on which the material is wound are journaled in these openings. y
Each roller comprises a flat bar l0 of a thickness to pass freely through the slot 9, and having a width to turn freely in the opening' 8. From one of the longitudinal edges of the bar projects a flange 11. This flange terminates short of the ends of the bar so that the latter may enter the bearing openings 8. Operating inr conjunction with the ybar 10 is a clamping bar 12 having at one of itslongitudinal edges an outstanding flange 13 at the same angle as the flange 11, and of the same length. The end of the material 141-, shown dotted in Fig. 1, is placed between the two bars and the fianges thereof, and clamped therebetween by spring clips 15 straddlingr the outer edges of the fianges. The flange 13 is ,slightly4 shorter than the bar 12, which permits the application of spring clips 16 to the end portions ofthe bars 10 and 12 outside the opposite Speceation of Letters Patent.

edges of the material. By means of these clips the material is securely clamped on the roller, and it can be easily and quickly fastened thereto and unfastened. Both rollers are constructed, and each end of the material is clamped, as hereinbefore described. The legs 5 are adjustable lengthwise on the cross rod G according to the width of the material to be quilted, adjustment being readily effected by means of the nuts 7.
The ends of the bars 10 project from the bearing openings 8, and in said projecting ends are apertures 17 to receive the downturned ends of brace bars 18 extending between and connecting the two bars, said ends being threaded to receive nuts 19 for securing the brace bars. By means of the brace bars the legs 5 are prevented from collapsing, and the supporting stand is securely held set up. The brace bars also hold the rollers from turning, but upon removing the saine the rollers can be turned to wind or unwind the material 14, and the rollers can also be taken ofin and the legs folded up for convenience in shipment and storage.
claim: f
A quilting frame comprising laterally spaced pairsvof legs having circular bearing openings in their upper ends and straight slots extending from said openings through the top edges of the legs, the members of said pairs of legs being connected, rollers journaled in the bearing openings, each of said rollers comprising a fiat bar of a thickness to pass through the slot of the bearing, and yof a width to turn inthe bearing, said bar projecting at its ends from the bearing I openings, and having intermediate its ends an outstanding flange at one of its longitudinal edges, said flange terminating short of the legs, a clamping bar opposite the aforesaid bar and terminating short of the legs, said clamping bar having an outstanding flange opposite the first-mentioned ange, means for clamping the bars together, the aforesaid projecting ends of the bars having apertures, and braces extending between said ends of the bars and secured in the apertures therein. l
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
