AMUSEMENT DEVICE.
To all whom/it may concern:
Be it known that I, WoJoIEoH VVNENK, a. subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hum gary, residing at Houston, in the county of \Vashington and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Amusement Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in amusement devices. The primary object of this invention is to provide an amusement device for children after the manner' of a miniature Ferris wheel being adapted for manually operating by means of a crank and positionable upon the porch or lawn or at any other convenient point.
A further object of the device is to provide a foldable miniature Ferris wheel adapted for being readily operatively assembled and capable of assuming a partially folded position when desired to store or ship the device. p
With these general objects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings forming a part of this application and in which like-designating characters refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views, Figure 1 is a front elevation of the device assembled and partially broken away. Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of the same. Fig. 4 is an elevation of the opposite side of the de vice from that shown in Fig. 2, parts being removed and a portion being illustrated by dotted lines in its folded position. Fig. 5 is an enlarged perspective view of a trunnioning portion of the rotor, and Fig. 6 is an enlarged sectional view of the hinge and latch elements for one of the rotor members.
The device consists of a mounting frame 10 within which a rotatable member 11 hereinafter termed the rotor is journaled for manual operation. The said frame is in the form of a U-shaped standard having sides 12 vertically mounted upon a base 13, the said sides being provided with strengthening braces 14 at the bottoms thereof. The said sides of the frame moreover are divided into Specification of Letters Patent.

upper and lower substantially equal sections hinged together as at 15 and provided with sliding bolt and keeperretainers 16 and 17 respectively. A driven shaft 18 rectangular in cross section is journaled between the sides 12 ofthe frame by means of cylindrical end extensions 19 of the said shaft extend ing through, cylindrical journaling perforations 20 at the point of hinged connections between the upper and lower side portions of the frame. A rectangular frame 21 is secured to the shaft 18 and a similar narrower frame 22 is likewise secured thereto, the said frames 21 and 22 being placed in perpendicular planes, constitutes a rotor when taken with the shaft 18. Inner swings 23 of any desired form are suspended from the revoluble outer cross bars 24' of the saidrotor frames, each of the said swings being adapted for receiving one or more occupants and being swingingly mounted by means of suitable connections 25. A pulley 26 is secured to one end of the shaft extension 19 and is connected by a belt 27 with a power pulley 28 the latter being adapted for turning by means of a crank 29. It will thus be I seen thatchildren may be readily positioned in the swings 23 and that by turning the crank 29, the operating shaft 18 and the complete rotor and the swings will be revolved as rapidly as desired, while the swings will at all times remain in their nor mal horizontal positions.
The bolt 16 may be released when desired to fold the device, whereupon the upper portion of the frame 10 may be swung upon the hinges 15 to the dotted line position as shown in Fig. 1. The top bar 30 of the frame 10 is pivoted as at one end 31 and removably secured at its opposite end by means of a removable bolt 32, so that the said top bar may be released and swung upwardly and outwardly if desired.
Both of the rotor frames 21 and 22 have one portion thereof hinged to the other as at 33 and also provided with sliding bolts 3% and keepers 35 whereby upon releasing the said bolts, the hinged portion of the frames may be folded over flatly engaging the adj acent face of the other portion of the same frame as best illustrated in Fig. 6. It will be noted however that the length of both of the frames 21 and 22 is the same so that it is necessary to remove the end bar 24 of the hinged portion of the longer frame 21 in order to allow this hinged frame portion to pass the adjaoently positioned portion of the rotor frame 22. The removal of the end bar of the frame 21 is readily accomplished by having the said bar removably retained in position by means of end engaging securing bolts 36. Similar bolts 36 are provided at the ends of the end portion 24 of each of the rotor frames 21 and 22 and whereby the said end portions 2& are revolubly journaled for allowing the swings 23 to remain horizontal during the movement of the rotor. The device may thus have the main frame 10 as well as the rotor frames 21 and 22 readily placed in their folded position and the device will then consume but little space and may be readily moved and stored whenever not desired for use.
While the form of the invention herein shown and described is what is believed to be the preferred embodiment thereof, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Nhat I claim as new is 1. An amusement device comprising a foldable upright rectangular frame, a shaft horizontally journaled transversely in the said frame, power revolving means for the said shaft, foldable rectangular frames carried upon. the said shaft and arranged in perpendicular planes, and swinging passenger supports carried by the said revolving frame.
2. An amusement device comprising an upright rectangular frame consisting of upper and lower portions hingedly connected together, a driven shaft journaled at the point of hinged connection between the frame portions, rotating means for the said shaft, rectangular frames secured to the said shaft and positioned in perpendicular planes and having foldable end portions, the end bars of each of said shaft carried frames being revolubly mounted and assembled, looking means for the said frame portions, and passenger carriers swingingly connected to the said end bars.
3. An amusement device comprising an upright rectangular frame consisting of upper and lower portions hingedly connected together, a driven shaft journaled at the point of hinged connection between the frame portions, rectangular frames secured to the said shaft and positioned in perpendicular planes and having foldable end portions, the end' bars of each of said shaft carried frames being revolubly mounted and assembled, locking means for the said frame portions, and passenger carriers swingingly connected to the said end bars, the end rail of the said vertical frame being pivotally mounted at one end thereof, a pulley upon one projecting end of the said shaft, a power wheel, a belt operatively connecting the said wheel and pulley, and a turn crank for the said Wheel.
