WILLIAM J; SPRONG, F LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
CHILD-CARRIER.
Application led October 26, 1914.
To all whom t ymay concern.'
Be it known that I, VILLIAM J. SPRONG, a. citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles, State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Child-Carriers, of which the following is a specification.
This-invention relates to a device for carrying children.
It is the object of this invention to provide a device which is adapted to be worn beneath the outer garment to serve as a support for a. sling adapted for carrying children, and which is so constructed that the sling may be readilv detached and replaced as occasion requires.
Another object is to provide a device to facilitate the carrying of children by means of which the weight of the child is carried upon the shoulders and evenly distributed so that a considerable weight can be comfortably supported without the fatigue incident to carrying the child in the arms, and by which the child is securely and easily supported. Y
A further object is to provide a device of the above character which is simple in construction and economical in manufacture, and which can be folded into a compact space when not in use.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a view illustrating the invention as applied. Fig. 2 is a view of the device as seen in perspective.
More specifically, 5 indicates the portion of the device adapted to be worn on the shoulders of a person and 6 indicates the sling adapted to be detachably connected to the portion 5. The portion` 5 consists of a strap 't' adapted to pass around the back of the wearer as particularly shown in Fig. 1, and shoulder straps 8 and 9 which are connected to the ends of the strap 7 and eX- tend upwardlyl at right angles thereto and are returned in the. shape of a U and connected to the strap 7 to form arm receiving loops.
Attached to the ends of the strap 7 at its I Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 30, 1915.
Serial No. 868,560.
juncture with the shoulder straps 8 and 9 are metallic rings 10 and 11 adapted to receive spring snaps 12 and 13 connected together by a ieXible cord lll; the ends of the cord 14 being preferably tied together as by a knot 15 by means of which the length of the cord 14 and the consequent spacing of the snaps 12 and 13 may be adjusted. The sling 6 comprises a pair of straps 16 and 17 which are connected together at their ends 1n angular relation to each other and are fitted with metallic rings 1S and 19 at their juncture which are connected together by means of a cord passing through the ring 18 and tied to form a loop which engages a snap 21 adapted to be connected to the ring 19, thus completing the sling. This sling' is adapted to be connected to the member 5 by means of a snap 22 mounted on the cord 141: and a ring 23 slidably encompassing the looped cord 2O and arranged to be engaged by the catch 22. In the operation of the invention, the member 5 is positioned on the shoulders of the wearer with the cord 14 extending in front of the chest and the strap 7 passing around the back with the straps 8 and 9 passing over the shoulders; he member 5 being preferably worn beneath the coat or other outer garment so as to be concealed. Vhen it is desired to support the child on the member 5 the child is seated in the sling 6, whereupon the latter is connected with the member 5 by means of the snap 22 and ring 23. The weight of the child is thus carried on the shoulders of the person wearing the member 5, thereby leaving the arms and hands free and unencumbered.
By the use of this device a heavy child may be readily carried for long` distances without discomfort and fatigue either to the child or to the person carrying the same, and when the device is not in use the portion 5 is concealed beneath the outer garment, while the lsling 6 may be carried in the pocket, thus rendering the device convenient and compact.
What I claim is:
A child carrying device, comprising a chest encircling strap, shoulder engaging have hereunto subscribed my name this 12th straps thereon, connected snap catches day of October, 1914.
adapted to connect the ends oi' the fnst named strap, a sling forming e seat for a W' J' SPRONG 1 child, and means for detachably connecting Witnesses:
said sling to the connected catches. MARGUERITE BATES,
In Witness that I claim the foregoing I MARIE BATTEY.
