Be it known that I, AsArH 'WILDER, a citizen of the United States, residing atByron, in the county of Contra Costa and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Smoke and Fume Condensers, of which the following isa speci-, fication.
' My invention relates to an apparatus which is especially designed to condense and reduce the smoke and fumes arising from combustion in furnaces so that the waste products of combustion may escape in the air without carrying with themlarge quantities of undesirable smoke and fumes.
The invention consists in the combination of a furnace, of draft and ejector attach- Inents by which the direction of the prod-. nets of combustion 1S insured, and in ztSBIlGS of agitating and condensing chambers, with connecting pipes, and an ultimate gasometer or receiver for such products as are not taken care of in the preliminary portion of the apparatus. c

connected with the lower part of the chambers 5 so'that these chambers may be cleaned out at desired intervals. A steam pipe 14 with proper controlling valves, as at 15, is so connected that steam may be introduced either with or without the air blast, at will.
The operation of the device will then be as follows: When the fire is first made and the v apparatusis cold, the damper E in the chimney D may be left open and'a natural draft depended upon until the fire'is suflicientlystarted. This valve is then closed and the valve or damperv 3 in the pipe 2 is opened so that the products of combustion will be diverted into this pipe; At the same time the fan4 being set in motion will form an ejector, driving the fumes through the pipe 2. The valvei being turned to close one of the passages [2 ,the smoke,;fumes and products of combustion will. pass through this pipe and be delivered into the lower part of chamber 5. This chamber is filled with water, supply being brought thereto through the valve supply pipe 13. i
The smoke andproducts of combustion being forced into the lower part of the cham her and. the fans 8 being in motion will thoroughly churn up and agitate the water and enable it to condense any .of the lighter gaseous products, while the heavier carbon forming the smoke will be settled to the bottom; the lowerchamber arresting most all these products and each of the upper chambers arresting successively a less portion while the gas will be discharged through the pipe 11 and into thetank 12.- Whenever it is desired to clean this tank.

series of horizontal and vertically spaced partitions in the tank forming top, bottom and intermediate chambers, each of said partitions having an opening at one of its zontal blades arranged so as to sweep adj acent the sides, bottom and top of the respective chambers, said impeller blades having a sweep across points alined with and occurring bothabove and below the respective openings, and means to drive the impellers.
