Description
para@ HARRY MILLER, 0F WAITI, W OMING.
.AUTO-CURTAIN.
Application filed April 22, 1934.
To @ZZ whom/15 may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY E. MILLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wapiti, in the county of Park, State of lll/yoming, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Auto-Curtains; and I do herebyI declare-the following;` tobe a fall, clear; and exact description of the invexr tion, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertainsto make and use the saine.
rllhis invention relates' to vehicles and has special reference to: that type of vehicle which is open onthe sides and which einploys curtains to close in the sides, for instance such vehicles as'autoniobile touring; oars. Moreover the invention relates to vehicle having side doors.
The principal object oi' the invention is to provide an improved curtain arrange ment ior vehicles of this description.
A second object is to provide a certain arrangement of rigid panes of transparent ma terial, such as glass, in the curtains and wliich'will permit the storage of such curtains ont of the Way when not in use,
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in general'of certain novel details of construction and eombination of' iarts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the aGeompanyinign drawings, and specifically claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and '.--ll*`igure l is a side elevation of a portion of an automobile body showing the door and the curtains in use. Fig. 2 is a similar View showing; the door as it appears when the curtain is storedl therein. Fig. 3 is a section on the line of Fig". 2. Fig. 4 is a section on the line t-i of Fig'. 2. Fig. 5 is an enlarged detail view on the line 5 5 of 1. 6 is an enlarged detail view showing a portion ot' the center and-one side curtain with the roller curtain attached thereto.
In carrying out the objects of this inven tion the usual automobile body 10 is provided with a hinged door Il. rIhis door consists of inside and outside panels connected by suitable edge pieces l2 so as to form a hollow body. Within the body 1:27 and eX- tending;f longitudinally of the door is a spring roller 13 to vwhich is attached one end of a web 14 of light duck or other like ma terial, To the upper edge of this web is Specification of Letters Patent.

There has thus been provided a sim ple and etlicient device of the kind deseribedl and' of the character speeied.
It will be obvious that many minor changes may be made in the form and conu e curtain is surroundcurtains struction of this invention without departing from the material principles thereof. It is not theret'oi'edesired to confine the invention to the exact t'orm herein shown and described. but it is wished to include all such as properly come within the scope claimed.
Having thusdescribed the invention, what is claimed as new, isz
l. The combination with a vehicle door having a hollow body and an open top edge; ot' a spring roller mounted within said body adjacent the bottom thereof, ay strip of flexible material having one end secured to said roller and adapted to be wound thereon, a curtain having its bottom edge attached to the free end 'if said strip, and a closure strip attached to the upper edge of the curtain and seating on the upper edge of the door when the curtain is retracted.
2. The combination with a vehicle door having a hollow body and an open top edge; of a spring roller mounted within said body adjacent the bottom thereof, a strip of ilexible material having one end secured to said roller and adapted to be wound thereon, a curtain having its bottom edge attached to the free end of said strip. a side curtain fiexibly connected to the side of the first curtain to t'old thereon for retraction, and means to limit retraction of said curtains.
3. The combination with a vehicle door having a hollow body and an open top edge; ot' a spring roller mounted within said body adjacent the bottom thereof. a strip of ilexible material having one end secured to said rollel and adapted to be wound thereon, a curtain having its bottom edge attached. to the free end of said strip. a side curtain tiexibly connected to the side of the irst curtain to told thereon t'or retraction, and a closure strip attached to they upper edge of the first curtain and seating on the upper edge of the door when the curtains are retracted.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature. in the presence ot' two'witnesses.
