Be it known that I, ROBERT MALLCOM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, Cook county, Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Eye-Shields, of which the following, taken in connection with the drawing, is a description.

My invention has for its object the production of an eye shield designed to be used by persons who are exposed tothe wind and dust.

The frame of the shield is constructed of flexible material having means formed integral therewith for retaining the lenses in position, the shield being made so that the edge of the frame will come in Contact with the features of the face, but the body there.- of will stand away from the face, leaving sufhcient room for ventilation and to cover a pair of glasses or spectacles if necessary.

Various modifications in detail touching the construction and arrangement of the different parts ofthe shield will suggest themselves to persons skilled in the art; my invention is not limited in these regards as the forms illustrated are illustrations of an embodiment of the invention.

In carrying out my invention A represents a blank of flexible material, preferably rubber, out of which the shield is formed, The material is molded into" the desired form, having apertures a, a for the lenses a. A notch B is provided in each end of the frame, and a slit b extends a short distance inwardly from the apex of the slot to permit of the edges of said notch being folded over as shown in Fig. 4land secured together` to give the frame of the shield the form shown in Fig. i, permitting it to extend away from the face. A plurality of apertures b are provided in the frame to afford a sufiicient amountof ventilation. These apertures may be located in any part of the frame desired. An adjustable band of elastic or the like, B', is secured to each end of the frame and extends around the head of the wearer to hold the shield in place.

In Fig. 5 I have illustrated another form of carrying out my invention in which case the blank C is of the same kind of material having lens rims c made integral therewith and having a groove into which the lenses c are held. In this case I have provided side lenses for the purpose of giving a wider range of vision, if desired. 'Ihese side lenses are D-shaped, and extending toward each other from the edge of the frame are the notches CZ which are overlapped as above described and secured together for the purpose of extending the shield away from the face. Each of the frames is provided with a recess L4 and CZ to fit over the nose of the wearer.

In each of the forms of construction here shown the frame is first formed and each lens is inserted into its groove by simply stretching the elastic material to permit of the lens being fitted into the groove provided for it where it is held in position by the grip of the material itself.

I claim In an eye shield, the combination of a fiexible elastic, ventilated frame formed of a single piece of opaque material and provided with lens holding apertures therein, said frame having grooves formed integrally therein around said apertures, a lens in each aperture, the edge of which projects into the groove and is adapted to be held therein by frictional engagement and to lie in substantially the same plane as the opaque frame surrounding it, a reinforcing strip formed integrally with the upper edge of specicaton in the presence of two subscribthe opaquel frame, and the ends of said frame ing witnesses. bent at right angles to the lens holding portion thereof'wheleby thevbody of the frame w l 5 s held away from the face of the wearer, Witnesses: Y
