Mechanism is provided for automatically rotating the shaft 14 to intermittently move the impression roller 13 up and down, this mechanism consisting of a gear rigidly secured onthe eccentric end 15 and meshing with a rack 23, which does not travel with the traveling bed, but has a relatively short movement and is automatically shifted at the end of the stroke of the traveling bed as described in the companion application. The front stops against which the sheets' of paper are manually fed comprise several spring fingers 37, which are carried on a hexagonal cross bar 38, this bar being pivoted in the side frame 39 and at one end carrying a bracket 40, which is actuated through thcinedium of a compression spring 41 moved upwardly by a lateral arm 42 from the rock arm 26 and bolt 43, passing through the lateral arm 42 and a lip 44 on I the bracket 40 to hold the spring 41 in position. Whenever the rock arm 26 is moved upwardly the spring41 yieldingly presses up on the bracket 40, and the latter moves down the spring fingers 37 so that their lower ends project into or slightly through the plate 34 as shown in Fig. 5, and thereby form positive front stops against which rests .of the forward stroke of the traveling bed,
after which afresh sheet is fed into position, so that after the conclusion of the stroke, the sheet is in position and ready to be shot forward by the feed roller when the latter descends at the' commencement of the forward stroke of the traveling bed. As the feed roller thus descends the fingers 37 lift and release the sheet, allowing it to move forward. A screw 45 arranged on the bracket 40 is adapted to strike a stationary lug 46 and limit the upward swing of bracket 40. The rock arm 26 after having been moved up by the projection 24 of the sliding rack is restored by a compres sion spring47, the tension of which is regulated by the screw 48 extending through.

In order to hold each ejector roller up in proper position, a spring 55 is provided which is coiled around the rod 51, one end of the spring bearing against a pin 56 on the block 50, and the other end bearing on the under side of the box 52. A pair of guide fingers 57 extend under the impression roller 13, the respective fingers extending along the top of the respective boxes 52', and being secured thereto by binding its end over as at 58. The other end of each guide finger is formed with a'hook 59 to en.- gage a flange 60 formed on the lower edge of the plate 34. This construction supports the ends of the fingers 57, and yet permits them vto be slidably adjusted laterally of the machine by loosening the thumb screws 54. The guide fingers are easily accessible from the top of the machines, and in full VlGW.'
