RICHARD FRETZDOB-FF, OF LEUTZSCH, NEAR. LEIPZIG, GERMANY, ASSIGNOR TO KOBTING & MATHIESEN AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT, 0F LEUTZSCH, GERMANY.
TRIMIVIING-INDICATOR FOR ABC-LAMPS.
Application filed July 26, 1913.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Brennan Fnnrzooerr, a subject of the German Emperor, residing at 2 Carolastrasse, Leutzsch, near Leipzig, Germany, have invented a new and useful Trimining-Indicator for Arc-Lamps, of which the following is a specification.
According to this invention an arc lamp is provided with a visual indicator associated with means for holding it in one p sition and means moving as the carbon holder moves for releasing the indicator at predetermined interval before the carbon is completely consumed, mechanism being also provided whereby the setting of the carbon holder. on the introduction of a new carbon \v'll restore the indicator to normal position.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying diagrammatic drawings, in which Figures 1 and 2 are similar views taken at right angles to each other and show the preferred form of mechanism.
The base of the lamp is indicated at 19, the cap at 20 and a chain wheel at 21. A rod, 22, is connected by the chain 84 to the upper carbon holder.
is a finger carried by the rod 22 and for the purpose of adjusting its height it is provided with a slot 33 and a binding screw 32.
25 is a bracket provided with a slot through which a notched link 24: passes; 26 is an indicator fast on a shaft 27 and 28 is a crank arm also fast with it, the link being connected to the end of the arm 28 while its notch engages the bracket 25 when the indicator 26 is in its normal position.
29 is a lever arm fast with the shaft 27.
30 is the upper carbon carrier and 31 is an upwardly inclined arm on it projecting into the path of the lever 29.
When, owing to the consumption of the upper carbon, the rod 22 rises, its finger 23 will in time trip the link at and the indi- Specification of Letters Patent.

cator 26 will fall into the dotted position turning the shaft 27 and the parts carried by it, the lamp continuing to burn as usual.
When the trimmer replaces a carbon he necessarily raises the carrier 30 and the arm 31 will act .upon the arm 29 and so bring the indicator 26 into its normal position in which it will be locked by the notch on the arm 24 engaging with the bracket 25.
The invention is not limited to any particular type of arc lamp or to any particular method of carbon feed.
What I claim is 1. 1n an arc lamp the combination of a moving carbon holder, a visual indicator, means for holding it in one position, means moving as the carbon holder moves for releasing the indicator from that position at a predetermined interval before a carbon is completely consumed, and means whereby the setting of the carbon holder on the introduction of a new carbon restores the indicator to that position.
2. In an arc lamp the combination of a visual indicator fast on a shaft, a. crank arm on said shaft, a link carried by the said arm, means for locking said link and means moving as the carbon is consumed for acting on the link.
3. In an arc lamp the combination of amoving carbon holder, a visual indicator fast on a shaft, a lever arm on said shaft, a crank arm on said shaft, a link carried by said crank arm, means for locking said link, means moving as the carbon is consumed for acting on the link and means connected to the carbon holder adapted when the carbon is being set to act on the lever arm after the indicator has been operated to move the shaft and the parts carried by it to their original position.
