To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, a citizen of the United States, residlng at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas-Rangesof which the following 15 a specification.

ith the above and other objects in view I have invented the device illustrated in the acc mpanying drawings in which Figure 1, is a vertical sectional view of a gas oven embracing my invention, Fig. 2, is a vertical sectional view of a burner taken on line B-B of Fig. 4, Fig. 8, is a bottom plan view of Fig. 1, Fig. 4, is a top plan view of Fig. 2, Fig. 5, is a sectional elevational view of a burner construction embracing the burner shown in Fig. 2, and Fig. 6, is a detail longitudinal sectional view of and air and gas inlet pipe this section being taken transversely of the division wall in the pipe.
Like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the specification and in the several views in the drawings in which 1 indicates a range consisting of an oven 2 and a grating 3 above said oven. Located under the grating 3 are burner heads 4 which constitute superheating expansion chamhere 5. An inlet pipe 6 is provided with a divisional partition 7 to form a gas passage 8 and an air passage 9 whereby air and gas is admitted into the upper part of the chamher 5.
Radially disposed around the bottom of said chamber 5 are a series of outlet burner pipes 10 perforated on their upper surfaces forming jet openings 11 when the gas is ignited. The heat from the jets heats the chamber 5 and the gas therein causing intimate intermingling of said air and gas as it Specification of Letters Patent.

The pipe inlet 6 1s provided with an opening 12 for the admission of air into the passage 9 and the collar 13 slidable over the pipe 6 is adapted to regulate the amount of air admitted into the opening 12, said collar being adapted to partially or entirely close said opening. Bythis arrangement the proper mixture of air and gas may be so nicely regulated that the flame from the jets 11 will be almost entirely colorless indicating that perfectcombustion is obtained. A handle 14 is provided on the collar 13 whereby it may be readily moved.
An oven heating burner head 15 is employed similar in principle to the one just described but is differently constructed in that i t'con sists of an elongated expansion chamber 16 oval in cross-section and having a concave bottom 17 forming arcuate portions 18 and 19 running the entire length of said chamber. 19 and openings 22 are formed in saidbot tom 17 adjacent the portion 18. A pipe 23 (constructed in the same manner as pipe 6) admits gas and air into the chamber 16 at its upper part.
In the casing 24 is located the cylindrical wall 25 of the oven 2. Spaced apart from this wall and encircling the same is the cylindrically formed wall 26, the ends 27 and 28 of which are spaced apart to receive the burner 15 and to form the passages 29 and 30 between said ends and burner. Shelves 31, 82 and 33 are provided in said oven.
It will be observed that these openings or jets 20 are placed in such a relation to the passage 29 that the flames 34 will be directed upwardly into the circular channel 35, drawing in atmospheric air through the passages 29, and further that the relation of the openings or jets 22 to the passage 30 are such that a suction is produced by the flames 36 drawing out the heated air from the channel after it has passed around the oven wall 25. These latter flames will consume any particle of gas and oxygen that may not have been consumed by the flames 34,-. The action of these two sets of flames drawing in and sucking out the air will cause a continuous circulation of heated air around the oven 2. And the heated air after being utilized for heating the oven is discharged to the atmosphere from the bottom of the range and void of any poisonous fumes, so perfect has been the combustion.
Having now described my invention, that which I claim to be new and desire to procure by Letters Patent is 1. The described device consisting of an expansion chamber, means for admitting air and gas to the upper portion of said chamber through the side wall thereof, said wall having outlet ports in its lower portion, said means consisting of a horizontal tube, a longitudinal partition dividing said tube into two, passages one for air and one for gas.
2. The described device consisting of a mixing chamber having relatively fixed together top and bottom and side walls, means for directing air and gas into upper part of said chamber, said top wall being imperforate and said side walls having outlets at its lower extremity.
3. The described device consisting of an expansion chamber and means for admitting air and gas to the upper portion of said chamber, said means comprising a tube, and
a partition extending longitudinally within the tube to provide separate passages for i an imperforate top and having a series of openings in the lower portion thereof, and a series of burners connected to said chamber and communicating with said openings.
5. The described device consisting of an expansion chamber having relatively fixed top, bottom, and side walls, said top wall being imperforate, said side wall having outlets at its lower extremity and means for independently directing air and gas into said chamber at its upper portion, said means consisting of a tube having a central longitudinal division wall dividing said tube into two passages.
6. The described device consisting of an expansion chamber and means for admitting air and gas to the upper portion thereof, said means consisting of a tube divided into separate passages, burner outlets from said chamber at the bottom thereof, and independent of said means.
