TOY VEHIQLE.
Application filed June 23 My improved toy is arranged so that a child may push or pull it along the street, floor, or the like, and while the toy is in motion, a bell will ring in combination with the movement of a figure, carried by the toy arranged to be rocked to and fro by the movement of the support therefor. .The various moving parts of the toy will tend to amuse a child when operating in unison.
A further object of the in ention is to .provide a toy, of the character above described, which is of durable construction and not easily broken.
These results I obtain by means of a simple structure having no delicate parts which are likely to break with ordinary usage.
I will now proceed to describe my invention in detail, the essential features of which will be summarized in the appended. claims,
reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part hereof, wherein- Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly in section, of a toy embodying my improvements; Fig. 2 is an enlarged cross-sectional view thereof, the section being taken on a line 2-2 in Fig. 1; Fig.3 is a cross-sectional view, the section being taken on a line -3 in Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the in"- row; Fig. 4 is top plan view of my improved toy, the'figure and a rear wheel being omitted; and Fig. 5 is a modified form of a rear axle supporting means.
As herein embodied, my invention comprises a frame 1 which supports a front wheel 2, rear wheels 3 (one only being shown), a hell 4 and an oscillating table or platform The frame 1 consists of side members 6, and one end member 7, all made in one piece; The frame 1 is open at the end.
8,,said open end supporting or receiving the front wheel 2, as shown. The. rear wheels are secured to a rotatable axle 9 having a crank 10 which, by means of a link 11, rocks or oscillates the table or pie orm The Specification of Letters Patent.

table 5 is pivotally supported by plates 12 extending upwardly from the frame-memhers 6, pins 13 being employed to pivotally connect the table and plates. The bell 4 is carried by a yoke-franie l i pivotelly se cured, by rivets 15 or the like, to the framemembers 6. One leg' of the yoke-frame 14 carries an arm 16 which by means of a link 17 is connected to the table 5. To the axle 15-3 of the front wheel 8, I pivotally attach a yoke 19 which by means of a link 20 is connected to the movable arms 21 (one only being shown) of a figure 22 carried by the platform or table 5. A crossbar 23 (Fig. 41:)
on the link 20 is long enough to engage both arms 21 of the figure A To push or pull the vehicle, 1 employ a handle 2i having a forked end consisting of two resilient arms 25, having inturned ends 26, to releasably engage openings 27 in the framomembers 6.
The axle 5) may be mounted in the frame I members 6, as shown in Fig. 1', or in plates 28, as shown in Fig. :3, which extend from the trainc-members 6 When the toy is pushed or pulled the rotation of the axle 9 will rock the table or platform 5, imparting to the figure 22 a movement to and fro. The to-and-r'ro movement'ot' the figure 22 will impart to the pivotal yoke 19 a similar movement, the object of which is to convey the idea that'the figure is propelling thevehicle by a 1 ush-and-pull movement. in combination with the abore-mentioned i'il0VC- ments the yoko'franie 14- will be rocked upon its pivotal points back and forth, causing the hell 4 to The handle 2% may be disengaged from the frame'by' spreading the arms 25 to cause the ends .26 to leave the openings 27' in the twine-members (3.
The above described structure will produce a pleasing toy, and notwithstanding the fact that a child will push the toy, it will have the-appearance of a self-propelled vehicle Clue to the combined movement of the figure and front yoke 19. l urthermore, as the-yoke 19 and yoke-frame ll will move in unison. "but in opposite directions, a pleasing effect is produced.
As the figure 22 is supported by a resilient or yieldehle poster wire 29, the said post will yield. to the strain of moving the yoke '19. other words the figure will not only be rocked to and fro bodily hntwill also heir. 11k
zonal bending movement due crank arm, a
to its yieldable support 29 giving the appearance of the exertion of energy to propel the vehicle. I may, as a var ation, rigldly secure the yoke 19, instead of pivoting same, in
'Ward end, a link connecting said yoke and the arms of said figure, whereby said figure and said yoke will move in unison when said-vehicle is propelled, a yoke-frame carried by the frame of the vehicle, an arm carried by said yoke-frame, a link connecting said arm and said platform, and a soundproducing element carried by said yokeframe.
2. In a toy-vehicle, a frame open at one end thereof, a. wheel carried by said frame and locaed in the open end thereof, a yoke carried by the supporting pin for said wheel and extending over said wheel. a pair of wheels located at the opposite end of-said frame, an axle therefor, a crank-arm car ried by said axle, a platform carried by and pivotally secured to the vehicle frame, a link connecting said platform and said figure carried by said platform, a. yieldablo support for said figure. and a link connecting said ligure and the yoke at the open end of the vehiclwframc.
In a toy-vehicle, a frame open at one end thereof, a wheel, carried by said frame and located in the open end thereof, a yoke carried by the supporting pin for said wheel and extending over said wheel, a pair of wheels located at the opposite end of said frame, an axle therefor, a crank-arm carried by said axle, a platform carried by and pivotally secured to the vehicle-fraine, a link connecting said platform and said crank-arm, a ligure carried by said platform, a yicldable support for'said figure, a link connecting said figure and the yoke at the open. end of the vehicle-frame, a support piyotally secured to the frame of the vehicle. a soumLproducing element carried by said support, and means connecting said support and said table.
I. In a toy, a movable platform, means to impart movement thereto. a yieldable support carrier l by the platform, a figure carried by said yicldable support? a frame for said platform, a link secured at one end thereof to said figure. the other enihof said link extending to the front end of the frame for said platform, and a support for saidlink carried by said frame at the front end thereof.
In a toy. a moi'able platform. means to impart movement thereto. a yieldahle support carried by the platform. a figure carried by said yicldable support, a frame for said platform, a link secured at one end thereof to said figure, the other'cnd of said link extending to the front end of the frai-nc for said platform, a support for said link carried by said frame at the front end thereof, a handle for said frame, and resilient arms carried by said handle to rel *asably engage said frame.
(3. In a toy-vehiclc. a frame. wheels carried thereby, a platform pivotally secured to the frame. means operable by the move-- ment. of the wheels torock the platform upon its pivotal support, a figure carried by said platform. movable arms carricd by said figure, a yoke carried by the frame at its forward end. a link connecting the yoke and the arms of said figure; a yoke-frame also carried by and pivotally supported on the vehiclcframc. and means connecting. the yokc-fraine and platform, whereby the movement of the platform will move the yokeyframe in, unison therewith.
