Description

JAMES M. CLARK.
lrnprovemem` in Pen and Pencil Cases.
Patented June 6, i871.
.-.mw EN--.
PATENT OFFICEe JAMES M. CLARK, OF JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN PEN ANDPENCIL CASES.
VSpecification forming part of Letters Patent No. 115,704, dated June 6, 1871.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES M. CLARK, of Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented and made an Improvement in Pencil and Pen Cases; and the following is declared to be a correct description thereof.
Pencil-cases have been made with a penholder to be projected from one end by a slide, and thepencil has been projected from the other end by drawing out a tube in which the pencil is contained, there being tubes with screwformed slots that operate to project the pencil simultaneously with the drawing out of the intermediate tube. In this pencil-case, however, ihere is not any magazine for leads. A pencil has also been made with a magazine for leads in one end of the case, and the pencil or pen fitted to be projected from the other end of said case.
My invention is made for providing a magazine for leads in the case, and for projecting the pen from one end and the pencil from the other; thereby there is not any risk of the pencil coming into contact with the ink, and the convenience of a magazine is secured.
In the drawing, Figure l is a longitudinal section of the parta of said pencil; and Fig. 2 is an elevation of said pencil-case, in which the pen-holder and pencil-case are shown as projected.
The case is represented as larger than the orthe case contains the ever-pointed pencil i, and
next inside the case bis the cylindero, and within that are the screw-formed slotted tubes that act to project the pencil i as the said tube or cylinder o is drawn out from the case b. The construction of the slotted tubes thatv operate the pencil and project the same is well known, and hence need not be described.
By this construction of pen and pencil case the magazine can be of a large size and does `not interfere with the' other parts, and the pencil is projected at one end of the case and the pen at the other.
I claim as my invention- The two-part case ab screwed together, and containing a magazine, d, and pen-holder in the part a, and a pencil, projected by the tube o, and screw-form slotted tubes in the other part b of the case, as and for the purposes set forth.V
Signed by me this 27th day of April, A. D.
