ciprocates in the upper end of a vertically arranged circular housing 6 having its upper end riveted into the inner shell 7- of the OlOCli-CHSG at a point coincident with the vertical center thereof. The said housing 6 has its lower end centrally perforated to prov de a bearing for the plunger 3 and receives a helical spring 8 the upper end of which bears against the inner end of the slotted head 5 and exerts a constant effort to lift the plunger 3 and head 5 into their elevated or retired positions. The upward movement of the plunger 3 is limited by the engagement of the upper face of the stop 2 with the lower end of the housing 6. The said head 5 is inupinged by an annular shoulder 9 located at the lower end of a push-button 10 having bearing in a bushing 11 mounted in th enter s e 19 f e' loc e nd retained in place by a nut 13 applied to its inner end, The said push-button 10 as thus arranged, is located in the center of the top of the clock-case which, as shown, is provided with a flattened bow 14 having its ends pivoted inbow-posts 1 5. The alarmstop 2 aforesaid is located directly above the inner edge of a horizontal stop-arm 1 6 turned inward at a right angle from the upper end of an oscillating combined alarmstop and let-off lever 17 swinging upon a stud 18 passing through its lower end and mounted in the front movement-plate 19. The said lever 17 is formed upon its left hand edge with a. lateral arm 20 from'which a finger 21 is turned forward at a right angle for co-action with a cone 22 located upon the inner face of a laterally movable alarm-cam wheel 23 the forward face of which is provided with an alarm-earn 2i coacting with a pin 25 mounted in the forward end of an alarm-set staff 26 which projects forwardly through the front movement plate 19 and rearwardly through the rear movement-plate 27 and is furnished at its rear end with a finger-button 28. At its extreme forwardend, the staff 26 is furnished with an alarmset wheel 29 which meshes into and drives a set-pinion, not shown, but loosely mounted upon the hour-hand socket 30, and carrying an alarm-set pointer 31 A helical spring 45 interposed between the front movement-plate 19 and the cone 22, operates to push the same and the alarmcam wheel 23 sharply forward when the cam 24 drops off the pin 25,
A helical i spring 32 connected with the plate 19 and the upper end of the lever 17, exerts a constant effort to pull the lever from right to left and so maintain the finger 21 in contact with the cone 22.
The stopping of the alarm-train by the lever 17 is efi'ected by the engagement of the outer edge of the arm 16 thereof with the hooked outer end of a vibrating stopwire 33 mounted in the verge-arbor 34c and rocking therewith, the said arbor also carrying an alarm cut-out arm 35, a hammer wire 36 carrying a hammer 37, and a pallet 38 coacting with an 'escapement-wheel 39 mount ed upon an escapement-shaft 40 carrying an escape-pinion 41. The rear movement-plate 27 is provided with a three-armed cut-out lever having an arm 42 adapted to co-act with the cut-out wire 35, with a stop-arm 43 co-acting with the upper edge of the rear movement-plate 27, and'with a rearwardly projecting manually operable arm M which is designed to project through the back of the clock-case.
, WVhen the alarm-train is let-off in the ordinarymanner by the action of the time-train, an alarm will be continuously sounded with the parts in the positions shown in Figs. 1 and 3 in which it will be seen that the hooked outer end of the stop-wire 33 clears the outer edge of the stop-arm 16 of the lever 17 To stop the sounding of the alarm, it is only necessary for the user of the clock to press down upon the push-button 10, where by the conical, button-like alarm-stop 2 is crowded against the left hand or inner edge of the stop-arm 16, causing the lever 17 to be swung from left to right against the tension of the spring 32 and the outer edge of its stop-arm 16 carried into the path of the hooked outer end of the stop-wire 33. This will stop the sounding of the alarm. At the same time the stop 2 rides over the left hand edge of the stop-arm 16 which is then by the action of the spring 32, hooked over the stop, as it were, as shown in Fig. 2, whereby the stop, is prevented against the tension of the helical spring 8, from rising, and remains in position to hold the lever 17 in its alarm-stop position. During the next few hours, the time-mechanism by causing the inward movement of the alarm-cam wheel 23 pushes the cone 22 against the finger 21 of the arm 20 of the lever 17 which is gradually swung from left to right sufficiently to disengage the stop 2 which is then restored to its normal position by the spring 8. The cone 22 now acts to hold the lever 17 in position to restrain the sounding of the alarm until the termination of the twentyfour hour cycle at the conclusion of which the alarm will be automatically sounded in the ordinary manner by the dropping of the cam 24 off the pin 25. The alarm will now be continuously sounded until the user of the clock pushes the button 1.0 downward to reengage the alarm-stop 2 with the combined alarm-stop and left-off lever 17.
I claim 1. In an eight-day alarm clock, the combination with Y a timemechanism, of an alarm-mechanism having a stop-member, a combined alarm-stop and alarm let-off lever operated by the said time-mechanism, and a plunger directly engaging the said lever for moving the same into position for being directly engaged by the said stop-member for stopping the said alarm-mechanism, the said lever and plunger co-acting to hold the said lever in position to restrain the alarmmeehanisni until the lever is automatically released from the plunger by the action of the time-mechanism.
2. In an eight-day alarm clock, the combination with the case thereof, of a clockmovement comprising time and alarinmeehanisms, the latter having a stop-member, of a combined alarm-stop and alarm let-ofi lever, means for operating the same peri dically by the time mechanism, a plunger mounted in the said case in position to directly engage the said lever for moving the same into position for being directly engaged by the said stop-member for stopping the alarm-mechanism and hence the alarm,
the said plunger and lever co-acting to hold the lever in its alarm-restraining position until the said lever is automatically released from the said plunger by the time-mechanism.
3. In an eight-day alarm clock, the combination with the clock case, of time and alarm mechanisms, the latter including an alarmwheel provided with an alarm-cam and operating cone, a lever adapted to be moved in one direction by the said cone, a spring for moving the lever in the opposite direction, a plunger connected with the clock case and provided with a conical head for coaction with the lever which is moved by the said head into its alarm-stop position and which is released from the said head by the action of the time mechanism.
