To all whom/it may concern} 1 'Be it known that I, JOHN Cannitnmg a citizen of the United States, andanresident of Lynn, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Presser- Feet, of which the "following is a specification.

Although I have shown my improved- .presser and operating mechanism therefor in connection with a sewing-machine, it is obvious that the presser is not limited to use in such a relation since it can also be as well used in any other machine which performs a series of operations on workrequiring the work to be intermittently held and released between operations. I claim a v 1. The combination of a Work-support, stitching mechanism, presser-operating mechanism to force a presser againstthe work-support and work held thereon, a presser disconnectible from said operating mechanism through the agency of the operator, and provisions for automatically reconnecting said presser with its operating mechanism by the movement of the latter. 2. The combination of a work-support, a presser, operating mechanism therefor including a lever and a reciprocating link having a disconnectible pin and slot engagement, yielding means tending to hold said link and lever in operative connection, means under the control of the operator for disconnecting the same, and provisions for retaining the same out of operative connection, said provisions being constructed and arranged to permit automatic re-connection thereof when the operating mechanism is in a predetermined position relative to the presser.
3. The combination of a work support, a
presser, and operating mechanism for the presser comprising. in part a reciprocable member, mechanism for reciprocating suchmember, and a member connected to the presser, one of said members having a recess and the other a projection arranged to enter the recess and engage alternately the opposite sides thereof, such sides being abrupt to the line of motion of the projec tion, whereby driving movement is imparted from one of said members to the -other.-

Thecombination of a work-support, a presser, a bar carrying the presser, a member connected to the bar, operating mecha-- nism for the bar and presser comprising in part a reciprocable member, one of said members having a recess and the other a projection arranged to enter the recess and engage the opposite sides thereof alternately and in a manner such as to cause motion, and means actuable'by the operator for separating said projection from the recess to disconnect the presser bar from the operating mechanism.
5. The combination of a work-support, a presser, and operating mechanism therefor, comprising in part a reciprocating men ber, an intermediate member suitably connected with the presser; one of said members having a projection and the other having a notch adapted to receive said projection, and also having surfaces extending from said notch adapted to engage said projection and permit the same to slide thereon when it is out of the notch and yielding means draning said members together. 1

8. A 'presser mechamsm comprising a presser foot, a member-connectedwith said foot and having a notch, an actuating mem-' ber having a pin normally contained in said notch and engageable with the opposite sides of the notch during movements-in opposite directions respectively, and manually operated means for displacing said pin from .said notch, whereby to disconnect the presser foot from the actuating member.
