FIGLL WIL'EIELM PLAIZ, OF WEINI-IEIM, GERMANY.
STEAM-GENERATOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 14. 1915.
Application filed March 24, 1914. Serial No. 826,840.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILHELM PLATZ, engineer, residing at Luisenstrasse 20, Weinheim, Baden, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Steam-Generators, of which the following is a specification. I
The invention relates to improvements in or relating to steam generators, which improvements are specially applicable to fire tube boilers and has for its object means for increasing the evaporating capacity of such generators.
The invention resides in the fact that the fire tubes are traversed by water tubes. These fire tubes are preferably, arranged or spaced in a uniform manner, and such that they form water channels traversing the fire tubes transversely from the bottom to the top.
The accompanying drawing illustrates an embodiment of the invention, in which:
Figure 1 is a vertical sectional elevation of a fire tube boiler in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a plan of a plurality of rows of fire tubes, on a larger scale. Fig. 3 is a transverse section through a plurality of fire tubes arranged adjacently and one above the other.
Referring to Fig. 1, a; is the boiler shell, 6 the fire boX and 0 a plurality of fire tubes connected with the fire-box in the usual manner to increase the heating area thereof. This nest of fire tubes are traversed by short water tubes (Z which are mounted therein, and each series of overlying water tubes are alined with a lower series in such a manner that they form substantially straight water passages or channels from the bottom to the top of said nest of firetubes in the direction indicated by the arrow in Fig. 1.
As shown in Figs. 2 and 3 the water channels are arranged in uniform series and extend over the whole length of the nest of tubes. The fire tubes 0 have such a diameter that the tubes cl traversing therethrough leave a sufficient clearance in the fire tubes.
The evaporating capacity of the boiler is increased by the water tubes. These water tubes may be of any convenient cross-section and may traverse the fire tubes in any direction. If the water tubes are arranged as shown in the drawing, namely so as to form channels passing from bottom to top, a more rapid circulation of water is produced in the boiler whereby the vaporization is still further substantially assisted.
I claim- 1. A steam generator of the multi-tubular type having cross-tubes traversing the fire tubes vertically so as to enable a rapid circulation of the heated water therein.
2. Asteam generator of the multi-tubular type having cross-tubes traversing the fire tubes vertically and being arranged one above the other throughout the whole generator so as to produce water-channels continuouslyrunning through the multi-tubular system from bottom to top.
3. A steam generator comprising a boiler, a nest of firetubes traversing said boiler, a plurality of cross tubes mounted in each firetube and extending through the sides thereof, each cross tube of each firetube being arranged in alinement with the corre sponding cross tube of the overlying firetubes to provide continuous water channels through the nest of firetubes from the top to the bottom thereof.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
