MEAT-SAW.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR RIOUX, a citi= zen of the United States, residing at J amestown, in the county' of Stutsman and State of North Dakota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Meat-Saws, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to meat saws and more particularly to hand actuated power driven meat saws.
The principal object of the invention is toprovide simple and eflicient mechanism which may be conveniently manipulated and which when placed in operation willrapidly saw through meat and bone without any of the laborious efforts accompanying the use of the ordinary hand saw and without the accompanying dangers.
Further objects of the invention will appear as the following description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing,
which forms a part of this application, and in which Figure 1 is a front elevation, Fig. 2 is a rear elevation, Fig. 3 is a side elevation, Fig. 4 is a transverse vertical sectional view taken on the line 4.4 of Fig. 1 and on an enlarged scale. Fig. 5 is a similar view taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 1, and showing the connection of the handle with the carriage.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, 1 represents'a casing provided with an open front and with sides 2 curved over into a protective flange 3-in the upper part of the case. The case is substantially circular and has extending across the same and arranged in parallel relation the guiding bars 4 each provided with a recess 5 for the reception of the lateral rib 6 formed on the frame 7. This frame is held in position by a cap strip 8 secured to the guiding rods 4: and is provided with an inwardly extending annular ,lateral rib 9 which fits into a recess 10 formed in the circular flange 11 of the saw head 12. Thehead is held against displacement in the frame by means of a cap ring 13 which bears upon the outer side of the rib 9 and forms a seat for the saw 14; which is secured thereon by a clamping plate and screws 15 and 15 respectively.
The frame 14: has secured thereto a casing 16 which projects through a longitudinal slot 17 formed in the case 1 and is provided with a hollow extension internally threaded as shown at 18 to receive the shaft casing 19 in which the shaft 20 is rotatably mounted,

Connecting the upper portion of the easlng wlth the upper part of the case are suitable springs 21 which normally hold the casing and frame 7 elevated within the slot and guides and connected to the casing 16 1s a cable 22 which passes through anti-frictlon rollers 23 formed on the upper end of the case and is connected over pulleys (not' ing secured to its outer end an operating handle 25 from which depends a suitable guard 26 to protect the operator from par ticles of meat and bone dust.
The lower portion of the casing has secured thereto a toothed meat engaging blade 27 having a sharpened and toothed lower edge 28 formed on the arc of a circle as shown'and adapted to enter the meat and engage the bone so as to hold the case-stationary during the operation of the saw.
The flexible saw may be connected to any suitable source of power such as an electric motor or like device and is preferably rotated at a high rate of speed, say 2000 i R. P M
After the plate 27 has been engaged with the meat in the proper place the frame 7 is depressed by pressure upon the handle 25, against the tension of the springs 21 so as to move the saw downwardly.
What is claimed is 1. In a meat sawing device, a case, a saw rotatably and slidably mounted in the case, means for holding the case against displacement on the material to be cut, means for depressing the saw, and means for supporting the device which normally holds the saw elevated in the case.
2. In a meat sawing device,-a saw slidably and rotatably mounted therein, means for guiding the saw, means for reciprocating and means for support ing the device which normally holds the my elevated in the case.
