Description

TED STATES PATENT FFQE.
JOHN C. LOBATO, 0F LOWELL, MASSACHUSETTS.
TOY.
Application filed November 19, 1914. Serial No. 872,975.
T0 all 't0/0m t may concern.'
Be it known that I, JOHN C. LoBA'ro, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lowell, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Toys, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in toys, and one object of my invention is the provision of a toy which may be carried in the hand or attached to a vehicle and which will Ydisplay a revolving object or wheel and also sound a bell, thus providing a device which will prove highly amusing as a toy or which will serve as a signal.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a toy which will display the revolving wheel alone, or which will cause the ringing of the bell by the revolution of the wheel thus making the toy both useful and ornamental and also enabling the toy to be used for advertising purposes.
Another obj ect of my invention is the provision of a toy which will be of extremely simple construction and capable of production at a very low price to render the toy useful, desirable and amusing.
To attain the desired objects my invention consists of a toy of the character stated embodying novel features of construction and combination of parts, substantially as shown described and claimed.
Figure l is a front or face view of the complete toy, F ig. 2 is a side elevation, the lower part of the frame being omitted, and Fig. 3 is a vertical central sectional view.
The toy may be carried in the hand or attached to a vehicle as found desirable or necessary and consists of the flat bar forming the supporting frame or standard 1, having its lower end 2, constructed to receive a handle or to be fastened to a suitable vehicle such as a bicycle. The upper end of the standard is formed with a bail or yoke 3, in which is journaled, the shaft 4L, having mounted thereon at its extended end 5, the spacing collar 6, and the hub 7, of the wheel 8, from which construction it will be seen that as the toy is moved along the force of the wind rapidly revolves the wheel 8, and its shaft 4. 0n the shaft and within the yoke is secured Patented Ang. 31, 1915.
the plate 9, having its ends 10, forked or bifurcated to receive the disks 11, retained in place by the studs 12, the rapid rotation of the shaft revolving the plate with its pair of disks, which as will appear, act as bell hammers.
The standard is provided with a vertical slot 13, in which fits and is adapted to slide the bell support 14, carrying at its outer end the bell 15, and having at its inner end the pair of guiding plates 16, to one of which is secured an eye 17, having attached thereto the lower end of the cord 18, passing upward through a guiding eye 19, and having its free Vend 20, in reach to be drawn upon by the person to move the bell upward to be sounded by the hammers operated by the shaft t. It will thus be understood that the toy may be carried in the hand or attached to a suit.
able vehicle and that the wheel is rapidly revolved and that the bell can remain mute or can be slid up by drawing on the cord and brought into engagement with the revolving hammers to sound rapidlyk and loudly, thus making a toy which will prove useful, amusing and desirable.
I claim: 1. The toy herein described, consisting of ya supporting standard, a shaft mounted in said standard, a wheel on said shaft, a bell hammer on said shaft, and a bell slidingly mounted in the standard and adapted to be moved into engagement with said bell ham-V mer to sound the bell.
2. The toy herein described, consistingv of a supporting standard having a yoke at one end and an intermediate slot, a shaft mounted in said yoke, a bell hammer on said shaft, a wheel on the shaft, a bell support rslidingly mounted in the slot of the standard, a bell on said support and means connected with the bell support for moving the bell into engagement with said bell hammer for ringing the bell. p
ln testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN C. LOBATO.
TWitnesses:
JosEri-r LUZ, LUIZ A. CARVALHO.
