COLUMBIA PLANOURAPH c0.. WASHINGTON, n. c.
]-l oWs: The beer pipes and their connections may be Washed with clear Water from any I suitable source. In this instance there is provided, asshown n Fig. 1, a Wash Water pip'ewhich is connected to a cook 33 connected to'thepump head fitting l/Vhen the cock33 is opened, Wash Watermay then be admitted through the hose 32 and through thehead fitting 20 and thence, directed by the valve 22 through the hose- 301 and its.
connected beerhose 'thence'through the beer coil 4 and from'the faucetS intO the adjacent sinkor "drain not shown." When the beer pipes are being ivashed, the hose 29 is omitted so that the vWater may run freely 7 from -:the supply connection 32 to, the operator. connects the pipe or hose 29 through the head gear of the pump, throughthe pipe 80 and coil 4 and discharge 7 from the faucet 8. After having sufiiciently washed the'beerpipes HIIClCOIlIlGCtlOIlS thereto the faucetB and the nipple'25 of the valve 22, closesthe cock 33 and then reciprocates the pump piston 12 throughmeans of the handlelS. As the piston moves up- Wardly, the upper valve 15 closes andthe suction therebelovv draws the solution from the tank 2-up past the lower valve disk 11;
the other of its'nipples 25.0r 26, as deterany fiuid'in the pump cylinder 9, above the valve disk 15, being discharged on the upward movement of the valve 15. lVhen the mined by the position of the valve shank 27. Assuming that the fluidsolution from the tanks2 discharges through the nipple 25 and thence through the pipe '29, coil 4, and
. s beerhose 5, it Will then return through pipe 30 to the nipple 26' of the valve 22 and be directed by the valve shank 27 down the chamber 23, from which it Will pass down the return pipe 24 to the tank- 2 for recirculation through the connected apparatus and system in one direction, so long as the valve shank 27 is not moved. Because of the fact that generally in beer dispensing devices the liquor flows in one direction all the time, it is desirable that the movement of the cleansing solution can be reversed or sent in veither*di rection alternately for the more effectual cleaning of the beer pipes and their connections. Therefore, after having forced the cleansing solution through the system intone directionfor a periodof time, the operator reverses the position of thevalve shank 27 so as to direct the flow of solution from the pump through the valve nipple 26, for instance, When it Will move A doWn the pipe 30, up through the coil 4,
and backqtlii'ouglr-tlie hose 29 into the nipple 25' from which it Will flow down the return chamber 23 to the tank. I
Eronithe foregoing-itWill-be seen that I have provided a simple, practicable,eflicient a and substantial apparatusfor the ready washing of a system of tubes or pipes through which a liquor may move, and by ivhich apparatus a cleansing solutioncan be forced through the system in either direc-c tion alternately. Afterthe beer pipes and their connections have been sufficiently Washedand cleansed, the hose29 is disconnected from-the, faucet 3 and'the hose-'30 disconnected from the beer hose 5. The lat-; ter is then connected to the tapfitube of the beer; keg andthe beer may, be again drawn from the keg, I
Having thus described my invention, What I I claim and :desire tosecure by Letters Pat- -ent isv 1. Apip'ecleaning device comprising, in combinatlon, a liquor handling apparatus, a
valve casing-having opposing side ports, ;a
flexible connection joined to each isideport' of the valve casing and connected to a respective end portion of the liquor handling apparatus, said valve casing having a lateral and vertical outlet port interposed between the side ports, and also an intake passage opposing the outlet, a single tank, a pump fixed on the tank and extending vertically therefrom, said pump having a removable head fixed to the valve casing and provided with a passage forming a continuation of the casing intake passage, a return pipe fixedly secured to the tank and connectedto the verticaloutlet portof the valve .casing,-and'a four Way valvearranged in the valve casing to connect the intake Wlth either of the side ports and the unconnected sidejport withthe lateral outlet port, Where-. "bv the solution from the tank will flow through the pump, valve, liquor handling apparatus and back through the valve and return pipe to the tank in the first instance.
2. An apparatus for Washing cleansing a liquor'handling apparatus comprising a solution ta'nk,-a pump extending vertically from the tank and including a valve normally and automatically closing the connection between: the pump and tank, ahead fitting for the pump having a fixed valve said casing having an intake'communicating "casing projecting" laterally over the tank, 7
with the pump, opposing sideports adapted to be connectedi to the liquor handlingapparatu's, anda lateral outlet port terminatingdoivnvvardly in opposing relation With the tank, a return p'ipefconnecting the down Ward terminal ofthe casing outlet ith'the tank, a valveiin the casing for controlling the'ports,.-an d a second laterally extending rates, the automatic Valve of the pump pre 'entmg the mtenmxmg of the fiulds when valve connected with the opposite side of the my hsind in the presence of two subscribing head fitting and adaptedto be connected -Witnesses.
