COLUMBIA PLANOGRAPH 60., WASHINGTON, D- c GAS WATER-HEATER.
Application filed April 12, 1915.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ANDERS J. RAsANnN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Springfield, in the county of Hampden and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Gas Water- Heaters; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the characters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this application, and represent, in
Figure 1 a side view of a water heater constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 an underside view of the same. Fig. 3 an enlarged view of the inner section, detached. Fig. 4: an enlarged view in vertical section.
This invention relates to an improvement in gas water heaters such as may be made in small sizes and located closely to the point of discharge, or may be made in larger sizes and located at a convenient point for distribution to the water pipe system of a house or other building.
The object of this invention is to provide a simple device including a plurality of sections between which the heat may extend, and so that rapid heating of water in the device would be secured; and the invention consists in the construction hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claims.
In carrying out my invention, the heater comprises an outer shell or casing 2 the uper end 3 of which is rounded. This outer shell has double walls 4 and 5 forming a chamber 6 between them into which chamber opens a supply pipe 7. Within the outer shell or casing are a series of smaller shells 8, 9, 10 and 32, more or less in number, the upper ends of each curved so that their inner ends come into the same plane around a central opening. The inner shells 8, 9, 10 and 32 are spaced apart so as to provide heat passages 11, 12, 13 and 14:, through which heat may rise from a burner 15 arranged below the sections, but preferably inclosed by the outer walls of the outer casing. straight portions of the sections 8, 9, 10 and 32 are preferably formed respectively with spiral grooves 16 more or less in number in which are located connecting pipes 17. The pipes respectively encircling the several sections enter those sections at the bottom, while the upper ends of the pipes are connected with the adjacent outer section, that is, the outer passage 6 is connected near the upper end with four pipes 18 which surround the section 8, these pipes 18 entering the section 8 at the bottom indicated at 19. The section 8 connects near its upper end with four pipes 20 which are coiled around the section 9 entering that section 9 at 21. The upper end of the section 9 is connected with four pipes 22 which surround the section 10 and which enter that section at 23, and this section 10 opens near its upper end into four pipes 24 which surround the section 32 and entering the same at 33, from which water passes into a mixing drum 30 at the top of pipes 25, 26, 27 and 28, and from which the water asses downward through the pipes 25, 26, 2 and 28 to an outlet pipe 31 through which the water may be discharged. 'By crowning or bowing the upper ends of the several sections the heat passing up between the sections will be confined and greatly assist in heating the water in the several sections, so that with my device the water is heated in a very short time.
I claim 1. A water heater comprising a plurality of sections curved at their upper ends and spaced apart, coils surrounding the inner sections, said coils opening at their lower ends into the sections which they surround, said coils connected at their upper ends with the next adjacent outer section.
2. A water heater comprising a plurality of concentric sections the upper ends of which are turned inward, the inner sections formed with spiral grooves, pipes located in said grooves and opening at the lower ends into the sections which they surround and coupled at their upper ends with the adjacent outer sections.
3. A water heater comprising a plurality of concentric sections the upper ends of ing drum into which the upper ends of the which are bowed inward, a series of pipes vertical pipes discharge, vertically arranged surrounding the several sections, said pipes pipes opening from said drum, an inlet into 10 connected at the lower ends of the sections the outer section, and an outlet from the Which they surround and their upper ends discharge pipes from said drum.
With the adjacent outer sections the inner sections connected With vertical pipes, a mixg 7 g V RASANEN.
