H. H. HUNTINGTON. n HANGER FOR FuRRow OPENER DRAG BARS. APPLICATION FILED APR.26, 1915.

HANGER' FOR FUnnow-OPENEN rinane-raalte.
Application led April 26,
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, HIRAM H. HUNTING- TON, a citizen of the UnitedStates, residing at Richmond, in the county of Wayne and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hangers for Furrow-Opener Drag-Bars, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in hangers for drag-bars of furrow openers for grain drills. y
The object of the invention is to provide a hanger which will be simple, strong, effective and economical in manufacture.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a grain drill frame and one of its drag-bars showing my improved hanger applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a rear elevationof the hanger, the dotted lines illustrating the same before being bent into shape.
Like parts are represented by similar i characters of referencein the several views.
In the said drawings, l represents a portion of the front angle-iron rail of the frame of a grain drill..
2 and 3 represent the bifurcated forward portion of one of the drag bars. The hanger which connects the drag-bar to the frame is formed from steel, cut and bent to shape, and consists of'a main portion 4, side ears 5 and 6 and a flange 7 along its lower edge `between the ears 5 and 6. The portion 4 is secured to the vertical portion of the frameby the bolts 9 which pass through the perforations 8 and corresponding perforations (not shown) in the frame. The bifurcated end of the drag bar straddles the hanger and is pivoted on the pin l1 which extends through perforations l0 in the ears 5 and 6 and also through perforations in the drag-bar and is held in position by cotter pins l12 at its respective ends.
In forming the hanger, the metal is lcut at the points 13, the portion 7 ygiven a right angled bend, and the portions 5 and 6 bent at rightangles against theends of the ange Specification of Letters Patent.
' der side 1915. Serial No. 23,880.y
' By the construction described it will be seen that a simple, cheap, and strong hanger and 6 providing a rigid brace for said'ears against the strain of draft of the drag-bar.
It will also be seen that the perforations in the ears 5 and 6 which receive the pivot pin l1 are immediately below the flangev 7 kso that said flange will be located relatively to the ears at the point of greatest strain thereon. Also by having the ears project above the top of the main portion, said `ears may be brought in close contact with the unof the horizontal portion 'of the frame l, thus removing the strain ofdraft to a large extent from the bolts 9. 4
Having thus described my invention, I claim,
mam portion arranged to be secured to the frame of the machine,
l.. A hanger for drag bars consisting of a 770 ears at the respective p Patented auiyao, 1915.
the ears 5 and 6 to project l 1s provided, the flange 7 between the-ears 5v ends of said main portion bent at right-an` gles thereto and a right-angled flange on one edge of said main portion interposed between said ears.
2. In a hanger forI drag bars, the combination, with an angle-iron frame, of a hanger composed of va main portion secured y to the vertical part of said frame, integrally formed ears at the respective ends of said main portion bent at right-angles thereto, the upper `edges yof said 'ears lying in close proximity to the under side of thehorizonltal part of said frame, anintegrally formed flange on the lower edge of said main portion extendingat an said ears, and means forl pivotally connecting the bifurcated ends of a drag bar to the outer sides of said ears.
3. In a hanger for drag-bars, the'combination, with an angle-iron frame having an upper horizontal portion and a forward vertical portion, of ahanger composed of a angle thereto betweenv sol extending iange on one edge of said main portion interposed between said ears, and
means for pivotaily connecting the bifurcated end of a drag-bar to the outsides of said ears. l0
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this 23rd day of April 1915.
