Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FLOYD W. PRIES'ILY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stockton, in the county of San Joaquin, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bandage- Roll Cutters; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this application.

This invention relates to improvements in a bandage roll cutter and is adapted for use wherever it is necessary to use bandages to any extent. The roll of bandage being in a wide roll it is often desirable, to avoid waste and an unnecessary amount of bandaging, to have the bandage of a certain width as demanded by the wound or hurt being treated, and to this end I have produced my improved device.

A further object of the invention is to produce a simple and inexpensive device and yet one which will be exceedingly effective for the purposes for which it is designed.

These objects I accomplish by means of such structure and relative arrangement of parts as will fully appear by a perusal of the following specification and claims.

In the drawings similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.

Figure 1 is a top plan view, partly broken out, of the device. Fig. 2 is a side view of the device. Fig. 3 is an end view of the device.

Referring now more particularly to the characters of reference on the drawings, the numeral 1 indicates a rectangular metal base plate to which I have riveted four upright round knife guide posts 2 placed in pairs on opposite sides of the base plate with a slight opening 3 between as clearly shown in the drawing.

The roll of bandage is placed in theholder formed by the upright clamp members 4: and 5. The clamp tbeing held stationary and the clamp 5 being made slidable, permits a quick adjustment to any size roll of bandage. To hold the clamp 4 stationary I have cut slots in the base portion thereof and placed machine screws 6 running up through the projecting portions l into a light plate 7 running the full length of the clamp and forming a part of the stationary member of the slide. The clamp 5 has in the base portion thereof, slots cut opposite to those of the slots in the clamp 4 thereby forming the projections Swhich are adapted to slide in the slots of the clamp 4 and to be held in place by the "stationary plate 7. The slidable clamp 5 when pushed up against the roll of bandage will hold itself firmly in place as the upright portion 5 being pushed outwardly will tend to raise the projections 8, at right angles thereto, upward against the plate 7 thereby holding the same in frictional contact therewith to prevent the clamp 5 from sliding too easily out of position.

Upon the base plate 1 and between the posts 2 I have fastened a piece of fiber 9, which will act as a guard against the edge of the knife coming into contact with the metal base plate.

To provide a convenient method of measuring the widthof the roll of bandage to be cut I have provided a rule 10 dovetailed into the base plate and slidable therein.

To cut the bandage the desired width the bandage is projected past the posts 2 and then out off by using any kind of knife in the slot 3 formed by the guide posts 2.

From the foregoing description it will be readily seen that I have produced such a device as substantially fulfils the object of the invention as set forth herein.

While this specification sets forth in detail the present and preferred construction of the device, still in practice such deviations from such detail may be resorted to as do not form a departure from the spirit of the invention, as defined by the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: j

1. A device of the character described comprising the combination with a base plate, of vertical spaced guides mounted on said plate, a fixed clamp member mounted on. said plate adjacent said guides, and another elamp member slidably mounted to be moved toward or away from said fixed clamp member whereby the bandage roll may be clamped therebetween and project between said guide members, as described.

2. A device of the character described comprising a base plate provided with vertical guide members spaced apart, a rule slidably mounted in said base plate, the upper face of the rule being flush with the up per face of said plate, an adjustable clamp structure disposed on said plate and extending longitudinally with respect to said rule, said clamp member being adapted to engage the bangage roll, such bandage roll being adapted to extend longitudinally with respect to said rule and between said guide members, as described.
