U1 AES HEAT-INSULATOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 6, 1915.
Application filed October 9, 1914. Serial No. 865,819.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, F WALTER GUIBERT, citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, county of Wayne, State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Heat-Insulators, and declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to portable vacuum units for insulation and especially to portable vacuum sad-iron plates and portable vacuum insulating plates for supporting and insulating almost any hot article such as a coffee pot, a hot plate, etc.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a plan view of a sad-iron stand. Fig. 2 is a cross section on the line A A of big. 1.
a represents the top plate ribbed at 6-?) to strengthen it and at cc to locate the iron and strengthen the plate. The bottom plate d is turned up at the sides and over at the top of the sides, the turned over annulus e being riveted or otherwise fastened to the top and holding between the annulus and the top plate a non-conducting (of fiber, asbestos or the like) ring 7" to prevent heat conduction from the top plate to the bottom late. p The air. may be exhausted to form a vacuum in any of the several known methods.
The same general principle of construc- Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the tion can be used for any portable stand, plate, or section. The idea is not limited to use for insulating articles that are supported but it may be positioned at the side of hot things to prevent conduction of heat.
With the use of the unit as a stand for an electrically heated article the ring f may also act as an electrical insulator.
What I claim is:
1. A portable vacuum unit comprising a metal shell of comparatively flat and relatively thin dimension compared with its length and breadth, the interior of the said shell having its contents substantially exhausted and the shell being hermetically sealed.
2. A portable vacuum unit, comprising an upper shell-part, a lower shell-part, a nonconducting material separating the same, the? said upper and lower shell parts being connected together and inclosing a vacuum.
3. A portable vacuum unit, having in combination a top plate, a bottom plate comprising bent up side walls having their tops turned over to support the top plate which is secured thereto, and a non-conducting member laid between the top plate and the turned over tops of the sides, the inclosure formed by the parts having the air exhausted.
In testimony whereof, I sign this specification in the presence of two witnesses.
F WALTER GUIBERT.
