To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that 1, PETER L. STROMSTAD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Coon Valley, in the county of Vernon and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Lantern-Holder, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to lantern holders and reflectors, and has for its main object the providing of a lantern holder which may readily be attached to the side of a vehicle. and which, when there holding a lantern will reflect a bright light in the direction the vehicle is moving and will also show a ruby light rearwardly.

Another object is to so construct the holder that it may be readily mounted on post or other timber in a barn for holding the lantern there with or without a reflector.

In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1, is a front elevation of the complete device secured to a side portion of a vehicle and holding a lantern. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the device shown secured to the vehicle by a modified bracket. Fig. 3 is a top view of the lantern holder and shield only. Fig. 4 is an enlarged portion of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is an enlarged bottom end of the right hand portion of Fig. 3.

Referring to the drawing by reference numerals, 6 designates a portion of a vehicle body, to which is secured by screws 7 a bracket like 8 in Fig. 1; if the bracket is to go upon the side of the vehicle, but. if secured underneath some part of it the bracket should be of the form 8 in Fig. 2.

The holder proper is provided with a socket 9 adapted to be dropped down upon the bracket 8, or S, which will then support the holder. The holder is composed of a vertical wooden member 10, a pair of short clasping arms 11 extending horizontally from the lower end thereof and a pair of bow-shaped longer clamping bars 12, 13 extending horizontally from the upper end of the wooden bar. The bar 12 is fixed at one end to the wooden member and at its other end is hinged at 14 to the bar 13, the free end Specification of Letters Patent.

of which is provided with an upwardly notched aperture 15 adapted to slip upon a headed stud 16 fixed in the wooden member and by the edges of its narrow notch engage back of said head. In this way the frame 17 of the lantern is clasped and firmly held by the arms 11, 12, 13. Secured to the bars 10, 12 by screws 18, 19, 20 is a curved reflector 21 having in horizontal alinement with the light in the lantern a lens or other glass or like means of a reddish or ruby color whereby such color is given to the light emitted rearwardly from the lantern. The same lantern is thus used simultaneously for the bright or white light and for the ruby light, and, as stated before, if the lan tern is occasionally to be mounted in the barn or other working place, all it needs is to have a bracket 8 provided for it, and if the reflector is for some time not needed it may be removed by removing the screws 18, 19 and 20 holding it.

lVhat I claim is.

A lantern holder comprising an upright bar having a socket, and a bracket adapted to be secured to a vehicle or other object and adapted to engage upward into said socket. and means on the upright bar for claspingly holding the frame of a lantern, said means comprising a pair of short clasping arms near the lower end of the bar and longer clasping bars extending from the upper end of the bar, said upper clasping bars extending across the entire frame of the lantern and being at one end hinged together and at the other ends one fixed to the bar. the other provided with means for looking it detachably to the bar. said long clasping bars being normally bulged apart at the middle to leave room for the globe of the lantern be tween them.
