A paper carriage shifting mechanism for computing machines, comprising in comhination'with a driving means and a paper carriage, a shift mechanism for said paper carriage, means connecting said driving mechanism and said shifaniechanism, means for cutting out said connecting means, and a key for operating said shift mechanism When said connecting means is cut out.
2. A paper carriage shifting mechanism for computing machines, comprising in combination with a driving mechanism and a paper carriage, a shift mechanism associated with saidpaper carriage, draw bars connected to said shift mechanism, means for automatically connecting one of said draw bars and said driving mechanism, means for preventing said automatic connection of said draw bar and the driving mechanism, and a key associated with the other draw bar for actuating said shift mechanism when the first mentioned draw bar is inoperative.
3. A paper carriage shift mechanism for computing machines, comprising in combination, with a driving mechanism and a paper carriage, a shift mechanism, draw bars connected to said shift mechanism, means actuated by said driving mechanism for antomatic locking one of said draw bars to the driving mechanism for automatic actuation of said shifting mechanism, said draw bar being normally positioned for said automatic connection, means for removing said draw bar out of its normal position into ining mechanism for automatic actuation of said shifting mechanism, said draw bar being normally positioned for said automatic connection, a lever bearing on said draw bar,
