Specification of Letters Betent.

application iled March 521, 1914. Serial No. l.
T all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD J. QmcLE, e citizen of the United States,'and n resident ofNew York'city, county and State of New t, York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination-Garments, of which the following is e specification.
This invention relates to combination germents, and the objects of the invention are to ineke a combination garment that is easy to put on or take off and can be mede either as underwear or as a shirt with drawers attricked. l
Further objects oi the invention are to improve the beck of the garment.
To the accomplishment of the above objects and to such others as may hereinafter appear the invention comprises a combinetion garment having shirt and drawers suitably united and open in e straight line from thc neck to the vicinity of the waist line, at which point the front portions of the garment are cut laterally in both directions, the front portions ofthe garment overlapping the front portion of the drawers.
The invention further comprises a. back which is cut on a line from the back oi the drawers to the inner side of one of the drawer legs.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a front View of a garment mede in accordance with the invention Fig. 2 is s'germent shown in Fig. 1 in open position. Fig. 3 is a back view of a. garment made in accordance with $5 the invention. Fig. 4 is the garment shown inFig. 3 in' open position.
' ARe erring to the drawings, 1 designates thev body of an underga-rment, or union ILsnit, to which is secured the drawers 2, in
. 46 the present instance shcwn'es of knee length,
although the seme may be made longer if so desired. i l The body i is open down the front, as. shownat 3, thc opening extending from the t5 neck"l to the vicinity of the-waist Line of the garment. The front portions Il of .the garment, tbat forin the opening 3, are out in we. straight line froin'the neck tothe vicinity of the waist line, at which point the front di! portions 4 ere cnt laterally in both direc- "tions" to the points 5, to permit of the ger'.
ment being opened es shown in F ig. 2.
The front portion 6 of the drawersd is i arranged to be overlapped by the iront por.i v6l tions It of the garmeptand closed by ineen From. the above description it will be seenI that the garment, shown in Figs. 1 and 2, when open, affords a, very large opening to facilitate the garment being put on or taken oil'. lt will also be seen that .this construe# c tion does not necessitate the front of the drawers being open to the weist line, thev same being preferably closed at the top to facilitate the closing and lit of the garment.
The front portions l nre preferably out and attached to the front of the drawers so es to overlap the seme when closed as shown in Fig. l. This nnderlepping of the front portion of the drawers permits of the garment being opened by unfastening only one of the buttons 7, without nnfestening the other Vbutton '7. l v
-ln the cese of a stout person this construction permits of the buttons 7 being set more nearly to the top of the drawers, without altering the garment otherwise so as to lengthen the front of the garment.
Y In' Figs. 3 and 4 is shown the back of the garment, which can be applied to any form of garment of the union type, which is open on a. line 10 from the point 11 at the beck of the drawers, to the point 12 at the inner side of one of the drawer legs, the' opening being closed by Ineens of buttons 13 or other suitable means. When the' beck is unbuttoned the same can be folded back, as shown in Fig. 4, adording s, very lrge opening 'thnt'is very conveniently opened or closed. While tne invention has been described with particular reference to an undergarnient, it is obvious that the body of the gernient can be made in the form of a. dress or neglige shirt with drawers attached.
While the invention has been described with particular reference to the details of construction, the same is not to be considered` es limited thereto, as many changes can be made and still fall within the scope of the invention set forth in the following 'cleims What I claim is: f
1. combination garment comprising a. one-piece suit, consisting of shirt and drew-v .ers combined, the front of said shirt being out on a streight'line from the neck to the vicinity of the waist line, and thence laterllo ally in'both directions to aV mid-point on the outside of the drawers, thereby formingtwo flaps which may be turned backward laterally from the neck to the drawers, the lower ends `of said iiaps being arranged to overlap the front of said drawers, and means for buttoning said flaps together, and to the front of said drawers.
2. Acombinatioiii-garxnent comprising a,
one-piece sut,'co3a's1stmg Aof shirt and--draw-f ers combined, the-back of said drawers, .com-
prising the seat; being cut on 'aline starting froni a xnid-point in the back to the inner side of the bottom of one of the drawer legs,
In testimony whereof I have signed this 10 .specification in the presence of two subscrib-r y lng witnesses.
