To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HYoKIOHI MARUI, a subject of the Emperor of Japan, and resident of the borough of Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hand-Attachable Blotters, of which the following is a specification.
In developing a blotter adapted to be attached to the hand or arm, and in that position be operated, I have discovered that it is advisable that the device be simple in construction, particularly easy of operation, and fiat, and although it is possible to provide such a blotter with a compressible part thus to insure by a single downward motion a flat and evencontact for the blotting surface I have found that this compressible part should be so easy of operation that the weight of the hand alone will be found sufficient to compress it.
In the construction herein set forth and described I provide a blotter having a support therefor that may be operated intermittently or continuously without tiring to any extent the hand or arm of the operator. In this construction I assume the weight of the average human hand to be about two pounds and I therefor arrange my device so that it may be fully depressed with a pressure or applied weight of one and one half pounds.
I have also found it desirable to so construct my device that practically all of the blotting surface and both sides of the blotter may be used, thus I eliminate the waste which occurs in the use of most blotters.
In an early application patented to me Dec. 9th. 1913 and numbered 1,081,053 I show a cylindrical member and a round blotter but in this application I use an oblong blotter and an oblong supporting member and I simplified the construction to a very great degree. This construction, its method of operation and the advantages to be derived therefrom will be fully set forth in the specification that .follows, reference being had particularly to the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 shows in perspective and on a small scale the completed device. Fig. 2 shows the wrist clamp, this figure is in side elevation and on a large scale. Fig. 3 shows the base plate. Fig. 4 shows the upper plate. Fig. 5 shows a blotter adapted to be used Specification of Letters Patent.

In describing my invention I will refer to Figs. 2, 3, 4t and 5 where the parts are shown separate.
At 1, I have shown the base plate, oblong in plan and slightly oval, this plate should be made of sheet brass or any other suitable material but in my construction I have made it of German silver, thin and flexible and provided with no small amount of resiliency or spring. The ends of this member are rounded and at each rounded end I produce a perforation as shown at 2 and 3. In forming this perforation the metal is cut on three sides only and then forced inward to produce the lips or hooks 4 and 5. After the device is shaped as described the whole member is given a transverse bow or is arched on a transverse axis.
At 6 I have shown the top member similar in plan to the bottom member though oppositely arched and preferably made of the same material. At each end of this member I produce a recess 7 and 8 bounded on two sides by projections or guides 9 and 10. On the axis of this part and definite distances from each other I produce a perforation 11 and a depressed portion 12. This depressed portion is formed by cutting the metal on two sides and then Fig. 6 shows the finger side elevaforcmg downward the strip that remains between the two outs. At 13, I show what I am pleased to call the wrist clip made of flexible material. It is a strip of metal bent to approximate a circle though having one of its ends straightened out and provided with an upwardly projecting tit 15. The opposite end of this clip may be outwardly turned as shown at 16. In assembling these parts the straight end of'the clip 13 is inserted into the perforation 11 and passing along the, under side of the member 6 rests between the depressed portion of the perforation 12 and the under side of the member 6 with the tit projecting upward through the perforation 12. This construction assures that the clip will be held radially in position. The plate 6 is next attached to the base 1, byhaving the lips or hooks 4L and 5 engaged upon the plate 6 through the apertures 7 and 8. The projections 9 and 10 acting as efficient guides for the hooks 4 and 5. The bottom and top members are intended to be'attached With their concaved faces toward each other as shown in Fig. 1. A blotter may now be attached by having the projections 17 and 18, that are formed integral With the blotter pass upward through the perforations 2 and 3 in the plate 1. The device is now ready for use and may be attached to the Wrist by passing the end 16 of the clip 13 over the Wrist allowing the upper side of the plate 6 to rest against the Wrist or arm.
If it is found desirable to attach the device to the finger and allow it to rest upon the back of the hand this may be done by substituting the clip 20 shown in F 1g, 6 in place of the clip 18 already described. It Will be' noted too that the blotters may be readily changed or reversed and that more than one blotter may be attached in my device at one time, although were two or more blotters placed'in the device only one Would be available for use ithout the removal of another.
