UNT-TED STATES PATENT OFFICE. A
SANDEORD W. HUNN, OF -COLDWATER, KANSAS.
PUNCH.l
`carriage top bows, without requiring the use of lother tools, and also avoiding the possibility of the 'breaking or damaging of the bows.
` Another object ofthe invention is the provision/i' Aa device of this character which is lsimple 1n construction, strong, durable, reliab e and eticient ih. operation, and inexpensive in manufacture.
With these and other ot'ijects` in view, he invent-ion consists'in' Athe constructio'inc m-f bination and arrangement ofparts, aswil lbe hereinafter morejfull'ydescribed, illusflf` t-rated in the accompany-ing drawings, and' pointed out in the-claim heireunto appended.
In th-rdrawingsLFigure 1 is. a perspective view of the-device constructed `in .accordance with the invention, Fig. '2- is a longitudinal sectional view thereof. ,Eig y3 'is an` edge view of' the device. Figa is a sec.- tionali'iew on'thc line 114-4 otFi'gfS. u
Similar reference characters indicatecorresponding parts throughout the 'severa views-of the'drawings. i
Referring to thedrawings byvnumerals,
the device comprises 'a'.straight handle 5,
, preferably of cylindrical form, and 'provided with an outwardly taperedend 6,'the
I f lhandle being 'formed from metal, falthough the y same may be 4made from any other gde sirable material. At theopposite end of. this' handlef is provided a reduced neck having a guide head8 alining with the han# dle 5, the neck being 'offset `relative yto the glatter and the head 8,' so as to' .provide arejccssv 9, so that the worl to 'be operated uppn ,may be received therein.
The head 8 is formed .with a central bore 10, in. which isitted aoslidable punch 11,'
' which is adapted to cooperate with'the 1n Specification of Letters Patent. Application mea' July 25, i911. serial No. 640,449.

ner end of the handle', this endheing designed as an anvil 12, against,y which the.
work rests. Theha-ndle 5 is also formed with a central bore or passage 13, opening through opposite ends thereof, so that on extracting rivets from the work by the punch 11, the same will pass through the bore or passage 13 from the handle.
Provided in one side of the head 8 is a slot 14, opening into its bore, and in which works an intu'rned nib l5, on the outer end of a flat lea-f spring 16, the opposite end of which is secured' to the handle, and this spring is designed to force inwardly the nib '15 against the punch 11 to hold the saine against a rivet, when the punch is to be struck a blow by a hammer or the like, dur-v ingv the extract-ino operation.
,overlying the anvil 12 is a die 17, pro- -1 vided with a central apert re 1 8'for receiving the punch 11, the. die beingformed on a limb dr bar 19 at right` anglesthereto, the
outer' nd' of theilatter being formed with an elongated slot! 20.`in whlih is engaged 'a set screw 21 which is also engaged inthe 1 handle 5, so that the die 17 may be locked in position whn'it is inengagementwith the anvil 1Q, or to allow .thery die to be raised and swung iaround out of engagement with 4the said anvil. Therefore, small and large headed i'ivets can be extractedf'rom bows with-,or without the use'of the die 17 which has a much smaller' bore 18 than the anvil itself.v
rpunch of the class described, compris-l 1 i in a handle having a reduced neckat onev en ,aguide -heaclv formed on the neck in alinementvwith'the handle, a punch yslidable in the said head, said handle having a central borea1 gage disk having a central aperture'l for'. receiving the punch and being formed on a'limb at right'angles thereto, the
outer end of theflatter being formed with an elongated slot. and a set screwpassing 7 through saidl slot and beingl engaged in the -handle. A
