To all whom 'it may concern:

Be it known that 1, PAUL V. Lnnoxn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Roselle, in the county of Dupage, State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hitching-Straps; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in hitching straps for horses and the like.

The object of this invention is the provision of a hitching strap which can be very quickly attached to the bridle and hitching post from either end, which can be adjusted and which can be conveniently attached to the harness when not in use.

Another object of this invention is to improve and simplify devices of this character, rendering them comparatively simple and inexpensive to manufacture, reliable and efiicie-nt in use and readily operated.

Vith the above and other objects in view, this invent-ion resides in the novel features of construction, formations, combinations and arrangements of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved hitching strap with parts broken away to show more clearly the construction thereof. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of my improved hitching strap in its operative position shown extended. Fig. 3 is a similar view showing my improved hitching strap shortened, and Fig. 4: is a similar view showing the same in its inoperative position.

Referring to the accompanying drawing by similar characters of reference, the numeral 10 designates generally a hitching post of any desired type, while the numerals 11 and 12 designate the bridlering and the ring of the harness saddle respectively.

My improved hitching strap 13 comprises an upper and a lower section 14: and 15, the former of which comprises a strap 16, the opposite ends of which are looped as at 17 for engagement with a pair of snap hooks 18 and 19. The section 15 comprises a strap Specification of Letters Patent. i

at 21 producing loops 22 which support rings 23 and 24. The opposite side straps of the section 15 have interposed therebetween a facing strip '25 to which the intermediate port-ions of the said sections are secured. The sides of the section 15 have further secured thereto and interposed therebetween flexible rings 26 which surround the upper side of the said section producing ,loops 27 through which the strap 16 is extended for sliding movement relative to the section 15.

The upper side of the strap 20 composed in the section 15 has secured thereto a knob 28 of metal or other suitable material which engages the under side of the strap 16 causing friction and preventing any undesired slipping between the two sections.

The device is used as follows :The snap hook 18 is passed around the hitching post 10 and then connected to the ring 23. The section 15 is then slipped in the direction of the said hitching post which causes the two sect-ions to firmly grasp the same. The snap hook 19 is next engaged within the bridle ring 11 which securely fastens the horse. When for any reason it is desired to hitch the horse by a shorter strap, the snap hook 19 instead of engaging the ring 11 is passed through the same and fastened to the ring 24;.

When the hitching strap is not in use and it is desired to attach the same to the harness, the hook 18 is passed through the harness or saddle ring 12 and snapped over the ring 23 which when the opposite end of the strap 16 is connected to the bridle ring 11 securely retains the hitching strap in a convenient position upon the harness.

From the foregoing disclosures taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be manifest that a hitching strap is provided for which will fulfil all of the necessary requirements of such a device.

Having thus fully described this invention what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is:
