Description

' ihiitml. states @e etant @Wine JAMES M. KEEP, OE NEW`YORK, N. Y.
Leners Patent No. 103.752, ma May 31,1870..
IMPROVED TWINS-HOLDER.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making. part cf the same To all whom fit may concern Be it known that I, J AMES M. KEEP, of New York city, in the county of New York and in the State of New York, have invented a new'and useful Improvement in rlwine-holders; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof,
`reference being had to the accompanying drawing -ers'forc'ontaining balls of twine, and
It consists in constructing the twine-holder with a cast-metal cover andbase, and a sheet-metal body, as is hereinafter set forth.
Heretofmej twine-holders have been constructed entirely of cast metal, or of sheet metal spun into the desired form, with the base and body formed of one piece, by which means it was found impracticable to furnish the completed article at a reasonable cost, as, in case cast metal was employed, greatdifculty was experienced in producing a lbody having an equal thickness and free from imperfections, while by the use of sheet metal, great labor and expense were necessary in forming the holder.V
. .lo obviatelthese objections, I construct'my holder with a cast-metal cover and base, A and B, respec tively, and a sheet-metal body, 0,-said base being provided with a suitable flange, b, over which the lower end of the body isfitted, and said parts secured together by means of rivets passing horizontally through the same.
The cover A is also provided with a flange, a, which corresponds with and tits into the upper end ofthe body C, and holds the former firmly in place.
'lhe cover and base may, however, have any form deemed best, although I prefer those shown in the drawing, while the body maybe either solid or cnt into an open-work pattern, so as to increase its beauty without materially decreasing its, strength.
The especial advantages possessed by this method of constructing the holder, are,
First, it materially decreases the cost of the same, as the parts can be more easily and cheaply constructed separately, and then combined, and
Second, it enables manufacturers to furnish sheet iron workers in small places with the cast portions of the holders, to which may be added at any time a body having such style and consisting of such material as is desired.
Having thus fully set fort-h the nature and merits of my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As a new article of manufacture, a twine-box or holder having its cover and base constructed of cast metal, and its body of sheet metal, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, Ihave hereunto set my hand this 23d day of April, 1870.
J. M. KEEP.
