Witnesses Inventor 4v Attorneys UNTTED sTATEs PATENT onirica LEVI IB. TRANSUE, OF HAZLETON, PENNSYLVANIA.'
srovn ATTACHMENT,
To all whom t may concern: p
Be it known that I, LEVI B. TRANSUE, a citizen of the United, States, residing at Hazleton, in the county of Luzerne and tate of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Stove Attachment, of which the following is a specification. This invention -relates to attachments for stovesffurnaces and the like, and has for its object the provision of means whereby hot air may be admitted to the stove or furnace at points where it will thoroughly mix with the unconsumed products of comferred form of the mv'ention has been` t shown. Y
.in the' scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention. In theA accompanying drawings the pre-A In sa-iddrawingszfFigui-e 1 is a vertical sectlon through Aaoook stove having the attachment in position therein.' Fig. 2 is an enlarged section through the attachment. Fig. '3 is a horizontalsection through said attachment, one corner portion `thereof being shown in plan.
Referring to the figures by characters of reference l designates a stove having an oven 2, there being thcusual flue 3 between the top of the oven and the top of the stove.
The attachment constituting the .present inf,
vention is adapted to be placed within the flue of the stove and consists of a boxlike casing t extending throughout the depth of the flue and mounted on legs 5 which serve to support said casing above the oven 2. Partitions are arranged longitudinally within the casing of the attachment' and are disposed 'in staggered relation so as tov form a :'.ortuousl passage extending from one side to the other of the attacl'nnent, this passage being made up of compartments 7 Specification of Letters Patent. disposed in parallel relation. The compartment located at one side of the attachment has an air inlet opening Sinto which projects a threaded nipple 8a provided with air openings 9 and a damper 9a is pi'sot- `ally, mounted on the nipple and is adapted number of the openings, .thus controlling the supply of air to the casing of the attachformed in the bottom of the compartment 7 at Athe other side of the attachment and said 'compartment preferably communicates at its center with the next adj oiningcompartment, as indicated at 11, instead of communicating partments.
any suitable .manner upon the casing 4, this plate extending overI all Aof the compartments] and the opening 8 being formed within it at the proper point.
between the stove top and the top of thel oven 2 and whenthus positioned, the nipple 8'? lies Hush with the ,top of the stove and-inail opening formed therein. As the nipple is threaded it can be adjusted to proper position. i
It will be apparent that when fuel is burning' within ,the stove, the products of combustion escaping .through the flue of the heat vthe attachment and air admitted to said'attachment through openings will circulate through the communicating compart ments and be thoroughly heated after which 10 and mixed with the products of combustion, thus forming 'a combustible mixture which willbe consumed above the oven and before itescapes throughv the pipe 14e. A considerable vsaving of fuelfwill thus be effected and a more intense heat canbeobl tained lthan Where the attachment is not einployed.l
What is claimed is The combinationwith 4stve having a flue therein, there being a'nopening in the top of the stove and'above 'the flue, of an and including a casing, legs for spacing it from the sur ace on which 1t 1s mounted, 'a
partition extending throughout the length ment. A plurality of outlet openings 10 is Vtherewith at onev end, as do the other come The attachment is adapted to be placed- 1n the flue ofthe stove or, vin other words,
stove to the smoke pipe 14, will thoroughly.
attachment removably mounted in the flue to be rotated so as to expose any desired` The top of the attachment is ,preferably formed of a plate l2 detachably secured in` it will lie'discharged through the openings y of the casing adjacent one end, said parttion having a. central opening and there being a compartment between said partition and one longitudinal ,Well of the casing, said compartment communicating solely through said central opening with the remaning portion of the interior of the casing, there being a plurality of out-let openings in the bottom'of said-compartment and communicating With the space between the casing and the supporting surface thereunder, a Series of longitudinally extending partitions within the casing and disposed in staggered relg'tenmto form a, tortuous passage,
one enclpgfsirt'ifn ofthe passage communieating with'saiglfeentral opening, there being an air inlet opening in the top of the casing and at the other end of said passnge, a-nipp ple removably mounted in the air inlet open ing and adapted to t snugly in the opening in the top of the stove, there being apertures in the upper end of the nipple, and a damper movably mounted on said end and adapted' to Control the flow of tir through the apen tures.
In testimony that l claim the foregoing as my own, l have hereto affixed my signa-- ture in the presence oftwo Witnesses. l
