To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LEE 0. GARRAWAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Memphis, in the county of Shelby and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Shade- Roller and Curtain-Pole Brackets; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in combined shade roller and curtain pole brackets.

One object of the invention .is to provide a combined shade roller and curtain pole bracket whose members may be used in connection with each other or independently as desired.

Another object is to provide an adjustable supporting means whereby the bracket may be employed in connection with windows of different width or poles of diflerent length.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrange ment of parts as will be more fullv described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

In the accompanying drawings :Figure l is a front view of the upper end of a window frame showing the application of the invention; Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view thereof; Fig. 3 is a View similar to Fig.1 showing a slightly modified construction of and means for attaching the supporting bar of the brackets; Fig. 4 is a vertical cross sectional view on the line H of Fig. 3; Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the shade roller member of the bracket with a portion of the curtain pole member superimposed thereover; Fig. 6 is a similar view of the curtain pole member of thebracket.

In the drawings, the numeral 1 denotes a supporting bar formed in two sections, the inner ends of which are slidably engaged with a sleeve 2 whereby the sections may be adjusted to lengthen or shorten the bar thus permitting the same to be used on windows of different width or shade rollers of different lengths. In the sleeve 2 are formed screw holes to receive fastening screws 3 whereby the sections of the supporting bar are adjustably secured in the sleeve. In the sections are formed longitudinal slots 4 with which are adapted to be engaged supporting screws 5. The screws 5 are screwed into the window frame and are provided with flanged heads which engage and clamp the sections of the bar against the window frame and thus adjustably support the bar.

Secured to the outer ends of the sections of the bar are shade roller-brackets v6 said brackets comprising right angular bar engaging plates which fit around the ends and rear sides of the sections as will be best understood from Fig. 2. The end leaf 7 a has a depending shade roller fixture 8-the eye members i being shown in the fixtures illustrated in Figs. 4' and 5, and the companion members at the other end of the bar 1 being provided with rectangular notches in a manner which will be well understoodand the body of said leaf 7 a is pierced with a hole 71 for the-reception of a screw 72, best seen in dotted lines in Figs. 2 and 6, and which passes into the end of the bar section. The rear leaf 7 of each bar-engaging plate is pierced with two holes 73 and 74, the former of which is adapted to receive a screw 75 (see Fig. 5) which passes through this leaf and into the bar section 1 and coiiperates with the screw 72 to hold the entire bracket 6 thereon. In the event that the bar sections and curtain pole brackets are not to be used, these holes 73 and 74 are adapted to receive screws whereby these brackets may be fastened direct to a window frame as usual. In the lower edges of the leaves 7 which engage the rear sides of the bar 1 are formed notches 8 which are adapt-ed to be engaged with screws, nails or similar devices 9 seated in the window frame whereby the bar 1 and the brackets are supported as shown in Figs. 3 and t of the drawing. WVhen the bar and brackets are supported in this manner the supporting screws 5 are dispensed with.

Adapted to be detachably engaged with the shade roller brackets, are curtain pole brackets 10 said brackets comprising right angular attaching plates whose rear leaves 11 are intended to be inserted between the rear leaves 7 of the shade roller brackets and the rear side of the supporting bar l, which side is recessed as shown at 1 in Fig. 2 to receive this leaf 11 and the recess possibly deepened a little at 1" in Figs. 2' and 4: to receive the head of the screw or similar fastening device 9. The end leaf 11 of the right-angular attaching plate passes around the end of the bar section 1 inside the end leaf 7 as seen in Fig. 2, and the leaf 11 is outer ends of the end leaves 11, are formed .upwardly extending right angular bars 12 "the outer ends of which are bent to form semi-circular pole receiving fixtures 13.-

The right angular bars 12 are firmly supported by inclined integral brace bars 14 which are engaged with the outer ends -of "the bars as shown. By thus engaging the pole supporting brackets with" the shade roller brackets said pole supporting brackets may be readily removed whendesired and only the shade roller brackets used.

From the foregoingdeseription, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.

Having thus described my invention,what I claim is:

1. In a device of the class described, the combination with a bar made in sections adjustable longitudinally with respect to each other and each section recessed in its rear face, and fixtures carried by said sections; of a rightangular plate for each section having one leaf passing behind the same and provided opposite said recess with a notch extending from its lower edge upward and adapted to receive the shank of a supporting screw whose head stands within said recess.

2. In a device of the class described, the

combination with a bar having a recess in its rear face near each end, and a shade roller bracket consisting of a right-angular plate whereof one leaf extends behind the bar and has an upright notch overlying said recess and the other leaf stands at right angles to the first and supports the roller-bearing; of a curtain pole bracket consisting of a'right angular plate having one leaf disposed within said recess between said bar and the end of the bar, and a pole-socket carried by the last-named portion.

3. In a'device of the character described,

the: combination with a bar having a recess in its rear face,and means for attachmg said bar tothe window frame; of a shade roller bracket comprising a right angular plate whose rear leaf extends across said recess and'is pierced with holes through which fastening devices may pass into the bar and whose. endleaf :has a similar hole and a bearing for the shade roller, and a curtain Dole bracket comprising a rightangular plate whose rear leaf is detachably mounted in said recess between the bar and the rear leaf of the roller bracket and whose end leaf carries a pole-receiving socket.

4. In a device of the character described,

in its rear face, and means for attaching said bar tothe window frame; of a shade roller bracket comprising a rightangular plate whose rear leaf extends across said recess and is pierced with holes through which fastening devices may pass into the bar and whose end leaf has a hole for a similar fastening device and a bearing for the shade roller; and a curtain pole bracket comprising a right-angular plate whose rear leaf is detachably mounted in the recess between the bar and the rear leaf of the roller bracket, and whose end leaf extends around the end of the bar between it and the end leaf of the roller bracket and above the endmost fastening device therefor and carries a pole-receiving socket.

5. In a device of the character described, the combination with a bar having in its rear face a recess extending from its end in ward and deepened at its inner extremity, and means for attaching said bar to the window frame; of a shade roller bracket comprising a right-angular plate whose rear leaf extends across the whole length of said recess and has an upright notch opposite its deepened portion and a hole opposite its other portion, and whose end leaf extends around the end of the bar and is spaced LEE OZER GARRAWAY.
