Upon t-he inside, near the lower edge of each side of thc hedstead, is placed a bar, B, running the entire length of` the bedstead, said bar being, on its upper edge, provided` with a series of recessses, in which rest the springs C C, which are secured on the under side of and near the ends of the bed-slats D D, said slats ruiming transvcrselyacross the bcdstcad.

Each of the springs C is madeof one piece of wire, bent in the middle,'so as toform the bail, a, which rests in the recess on the bar'B. l The wircis then formed into the two coils b b, and the ends inserted into the vnnder side of the' slat D, and held by staplese c, as shown in fig. 2. l
On the edges of the slat E, near the end thereof'. is` secured a leather strap, E, which passes around the bail a. of the spring c, to hold the spring anrlvslat in proper position.
`Across the hed-slats D D, running lengthwise of of the bed, are straps,.E E, secured to the slats, and their ends secured to the lower edges of the end-pieces ofthe bedstead.
These straps hold the slats in proper position'.
