Description

` To all whom it may conce-rn:
me no.
BRYANT F. srRoUD, or MARSHALL, TEXAS.
Letters Patent No. 102,879, dated'M'ay 10, 1870.
The Schedule referred to lnwthese Let-ters Patent and making part of the sarna.
Bc it known that I, BRYANT F.V S'rnoo, of Marshall, in the county of Harrison andState of Texas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ealing-Press; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', which will enable others skilled lin the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accom pauying drawing forming part of this specification,
in which the figure is a side view of my improvedpress. Y
' My invention has for' its object to improve't-he con struction of heling-presses, so as to make them simpier in construction, and more-convenient andA effective in operation; Aand It consists in the construction and combination of the levers, rack-bars, and pawls with each other, andl with 'the -follower and heling-box, as hereinafter more fully. described, I
A is the frame of the press. Bis the box, against the bottom lof which the bale is forced when being;l compressed, and the sides ofthe lower part of which may be detached for the removal of the compressed' bail, by' taking out thev sliding bars b. l h
G is the follower, by the,4 downward movement vof which the material tube-'balad is' forced down against made small to receive the ipawlsE, and the teeth of the lowerhalves of which are made larger to receive the ends of the levers F.
pose. set forth.
, E are double pawls, which are pivoted to the projecting ,'ends of the follower C, and the engaging ends of which are so arranged as to never allow the end of the followerywhen released from the level-IF, to move back farther than the space of half a-tooth.. This allows the teeth of the racks tobe made larger and stronger than when a single pawl-is used;
F- are the levers, to the lower ends. of which are seere-ly attached a'. bar, hars, or socket, f', the lower parts ofwhich are slotted, and have holesforlned through ther'n to receive the bolts G and H.
The bolts G, which pass through the ends of the slotted bars f', are designed to engage with the teeth of the lower part of the racks D.
The bolts Hare passed Vthrough one or theother of the holes through the said bars f', at ahgreat'er or less .distance from the bolts G, according as it is desired to move the follower C with with greater power.
I are the chains, link's, or bars, the upper ends of which are securely pivoted to the ends of the follower greater speed, or
C, and the lower ends of which are hooked upon the* bolts H, as shown in the figure.
Having thus described my invention,
The combina-tion .and arrangement of levers F f', chains, links, or bars I, racks D 1)',and'pawlsl E, whether double or single, with each other and with the follower C and press-frame and box A B, substantially as herein shown and described and for the pur- Witn'esses': i
GEO. RIHILL, J. ILVAN Hoox.
, I claim asl new -anddesire to secure by Letters BRYANT 1r. s'rRoUD. l
