Description

waited gittat- @atcai @Mire 12mm Patent No. 102,831, dazed May 1o, 1870.
IMPROVED CLOTHES-DERIER.v
'lhe Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, HILAND H. KENDmcK, of Fulton, in the county of Oswego and State-of New York, have invented an Improved Clothes-Frame; and l do hereby declare that the following isaf'ull, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanyingr drawings making part of' this specification,
` Figure 1 being an end view ofthe frame spread ontfor use.
Figure 2, an end view thereof', folded up.
Figure 3, a top view of' the same, spread out 'as in fig. 1.
Figure 4, a side view thereof', as folded int-o its most compact form.
Like letters designate corresponding parts in all the figures.
All the lower part of' the frame, distinct in itself', andcomposed of the cross-standards A A, slats B B, and braces"0 D, has been before in use. l
This frame, when the braces' C D are released atone end, as at c d, respectively, for which arangement they properly provided, is capable of being doubly folded, iirst, sidewise, turning on the pivots af a of the standards A A t-ill the said standards areinline; and second, obliquely endwise, on the pivots b b, which connect the slats B B with the standards till the said standards at the two ends of' the frame, and the slats on the two sides, respectively, are brought close together side by side, as indicated in fig. 4. It is then in a very compact form.
My invention consists in combining wit-h this frame, as above described, an additional frame, composed ot' terminal arms D D at the ends, and connecting-slats EE, pivoted to the arms at the sides by pivots e e, the said additional frame being connected with the frame below by joint hinges ,G G of peculiar form, and the adjacent arms bring connected together by joint hinges H H, also peculiarly formed, s o that the whole i additional flame. will fold doubly with the frame below, thus producingv a double frame of greatly increased capacit-y, and, at the same time, capable of' folding int-o a very small space.
lhe arms D D are located outside of the frame be# low, and are connected, respectively, with the upper ends of the standards B B thereof, by bent or elbowformed hinges G G, which project outward some distance, as shown, so that the arms will swing clear of the lower frame in all positions, as shown in gs. 1
and 2.
The hinges G G are secured rigidly to the standards B B by b olts or screws f f, and are pivoted to the middle of the arms DD by pivot pins g g.
And further-,to allow the frame below to fold inside of the additional frame, the upper ends of thezarms D D are connected by double, bent, or elbow-'formed hinges H H, rigidly secured to the arms by bolts or screws h 7l and p ivotcd together at i i.
It is see`n in figs. 2 and 4-liow the whole double lframe, by this construction, folds very compactiy.
lVhat I claimasinyy invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is The additional top fraaie, composed of' the arms D D and slats E E, connected with the frame below by the hinges G G, and together by the `hinges H H, as and for the purpose herein specified.
Specification signedby me February 4th, 1870.
H. H. KENDRICK.
