Specification'of Letters Patent.
PatenteolJunea,19r2.
Application filed December 7 1911. semi No. ceases.
To all cohort it may concern: I Be i t known that I, EDMUNDN i"? a acitizenof the United States, residing at zanesville, in the county of Muskingum and State of Ohio, have invented certain new 7 and usefullmprovements in Mausoleum Interment-Grypts, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a tomb or mausoleum above ground which contains apartments or crypts adapted for the'recept-ion and preservation of dead bodies and aims to provide a crypt in which dead bodies are placed, cared for and preserved in the most sanitary manner, at the same time protect the public against a diffusion of germ-ladem air which has beengenerated within and expelled from an occupied crypt during the period of bodily dissolution.
The object of my invention is tosupply a mausoleum apartment or crypt which Will thoroughly disinfect and destroy infectious bacteria and moisture propagated .within said crypt and its equipment a part thereof: provide for the disinfection of an occupied crypt and its equipment from time to time without opening, removing or in any manner-disturbing either the top, bottom, sides or ends of the cry'pts main structure, and without permitting air to enter said crypt while the process of disinfect-ion is being accomplished, also to provide a way and means by which an occupied crypt is hermetically sealed immediately or early after the cessation of dissolution of the body occupying the crypt has shown itself. I
/ attain these. objects by thenovel construction illustrated inthe drawings a part of this specification, in which Figure l is a sectional view ofj a tier of mausoleum crypts 5, the top" crypt 5 of which is equipped with my disinfector, moisture and disinfecting pipes: Fig. 2 is "a sectional view of the main body of my disinfector 10 Fig.3 is a sectional view of my moisture disinfecting receptacle .6 {showing a U shaped or trapped fiush-pipell inposition, and Fig. i isan enlarged view of my '-perforated woven wire; bottdmed disinfectant cans of boxes QOinFigMQ, said figures showing clearly! the features of my invention.
parts in ail'the figures.
suitable material and of suitable thickness and depth. Between the foundation walls 1 I provide a'bed or deposit of cinders 2 or other suitable material, which is preferably packed or'rammed down tight after the moisture disinfecting receptacle 6 has been duly installed within the bed of cinders 2 at its proper point, and the upper surface of the cinder bed 2 and the upper surface of the foundation 1 are on the same level. Upon the bed of cinders 2 and upon the foundation Walls 1 I place a concrete floor 3 having'a level surface. Upon this concrete fioor 3 is built the outer walls tofthe mausoleum,- after which the crypts 5 are erected upon the concrete floor 3 between the outer walls 4:.
5 shows the structural body of a mau soleum crypt equipped to embody my invention.
8 is a metal moisture pipe extending from the bottom of the inner floor of the crypt 5 downward to the moisture disinfecting receptacle 6 embedded within the cinder deposit 2.
22 is a gas-exit pipe beginning at. 9' and. leading directly from the inner top of crypt 5 and connected with the disinfector 10 by means'of pipe 23. V
11 is a deposit .of 1i uid disinfectant stored in the reservoir,- or isinfecting chamber, a part of disinfector 10.
I 12 is the disinfecting material, 'antis'eptics, deodorizers and acids in crystal and powdered form contained .in the perforated metal plug which is removed from the body of the disinfector 10. when inserting the perforated woven wire bottomed cups .20
within the main bOdYvO'f the disinfector 1 0., 15 is a screw threaded metal plug which is, removed frdm thema'in body, disintomed cups 20, and 14 is a screw'threaded fector 10 when supplying the liquid disinfectant 11 to the reservoir or liquid' chamher in the disinfector 1'0, and 16 is a screw threaded metdi' filug whichis removed when gas-exit pipe 22, endlng zit .9,, is used for disi'fifectingthe crypt 5", and theimoisturey pipe 8 by the process of liq id flushing. 17 is a vent-pipe leading from the ilisirr' fector 10 to and beyond the top of the roof of the mausoleum.
18 is a stop-cock which regulates the outgo of gas from the disinfector lO-to the vent-pipe l7, and 19 is a stop-cock apart of gas-exit pipe 22 between crypt 5 and the disinfector" IO, which is closed during the charging or supplying of the liquid and air chambers within the disinfector 10: is open during the exit of gas from crypt 5 into the disinfector 10: open during the flushing of crypt 5 and the moisture pipe 8, and is closed when used to hermetically seal crypt 5.
20 is a perforated woven wire bottomed cup or can in which granulated and powdered chemical disinfectants and deodorizers are stored for service within the disinfector 10.
21 is a stop-cock, a part of flush-pipe 7, and is used to seal said flush-pipe when the same is not in active service.
In the beginning of the erection of a mausoleum containing crypts embodying my invention the moisture disinfecting receptacle 6 and portions of the feed and flush pipes 8 and 7 are given a fixed position within the cinder bed 2 before the concrete floor 3 has been placed, further additions to said feed and flush pipes 8 and 7 being added thereto as the structure proceeds upward. While the crypt 5 is in the course of erection the moisture or feed pipe 8 is admitted within v the crypt 5 upon a direct line with said crypts floor or bottom when said moisture or feed pipe 8 is perfectly and permanently secured to the inner and outer wall of said crypt 5 and becomes a perpetually fixed part of said crypt by means of the use Ofcement, screw threaded metal fittings and rubber or compressed paper gaskets. A like connection is made in the top wall or end of crypt 5 with gasexit pipe 22 beginning at 9 and leading into the disinfector l0.
In the assemblage of a crypt disinfecting equipment I use, preferably, enameled or galvanized wrought iron pipe and 1nalleable iron fittings, all of suitable sizes, my disinfector and its connections representing a combination'consisting of metal pipe, stopcocks, bends, Ts and screw threaded plugs, the full construction of which is given by the drawings, a part of this specification.
When an occupant has been placed within the crypt 5 and the cement .or stone closure of the crypt has been substantially cemented in po -ition and the crypt closed, I remove the sc ew threaded metal plugs 14 and 15 and cha ge the liquid and air chambers of disinfe tor 10 with suitable disin-v fectants and deodorizers, after which I return the screw threaded metal plugs 14: and 15 to their position in the body of disinfector 10. I next remove screw threaded 'ture disinfecting receptacle, may .occur as frequently as may be desired.
Having fully described my what I claim therefor and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a mausoleum interment crypt-the combination of a crypt having as a connection and a part thereof a discharge moisture pipe leading from the inner side of the bottom wall or floor of said crypt downward to and connected with a moisture disinfecting rece )tacle fitted with an independent U shape or trapped flush-pipe: a gas-exit pipe leading from the inner top wall of said crypt into a disinfector having air, liquid and disinfecting storage chambers, and an exit pipe leading from said disinfector into the outer air, substantially as set forth.
